Welcome to the community. While the community rules do allow promotional posting by IT vendors, please restrict this posting to the "Self Promotion" group and not to the IT Discussion group. However, just as a general point, expect to be treated very poorly by the community for drive by posting of ad copy. Simply posting ad copy and not participating in the community will always result in very bad feedback from the community. Just because it is allowed, doesn't mean that it will be warmly received.

RE: MangoLassi questions
Here we go, we now have a Self Promotion group. Go crazy and promote some stuff! This is for everyone wanting to just toot their own horn. Could be product announcements or whatever.

RE: Who's paying for this?
MangoLassi is a proof of concept, and hopefully flagship, internally managed online community from GroveSocial which is a subsidiary of Dutch Colonial Heritage Development Corporation (DCHDC) in Texas. GroveSocial is a social media community building and social media marketing consulting firm startup that looks to assist companies with their social media strategies and to build and manage complete social media experiences on their behalf, both public and private.
GroveSocial is very much in a startup phase right now and MangoLassi is our first hosted online community. It is really a proving ground for some advanced community technology to demonstrate our ability to build, host, manage and nurture a community. We chose to go down the technology community path for our first community because of the natural synergy that exists between IT professionals and social media, for one, and because our IT consultants, on whom we rely heavily for the technical portions of our service, are extremely versed in the technology areas of social media and play an important role in our overall strategy and in the community here. Because it takes IT to build an online community, it is just natural to have an online community about IT. Surprisingly, public forums and communities that are not run by a single vendor (Cisco has their own community around Cisco products, for example) are few and far between. Nearly all answer to a product or single vendor for mission and goal. We saw an opening and an opportunity and decided that this was the best place to go, and from the looks of it, we were right!
But by no means is MangoLassi our only community. More are in the pipeline already and last night's maintenance was part of that preparation work as we change some of the delivery stack to enable multiple communities on the same platform. We'll announce new communities in here as they go live, hopefully to generate some additional interest. GroveSocial plans to operate and maintain several vibrant, living communities of our own to showcase what we can do, in additional to building communities for customers.

RE: What's better than Java?
This would be a great topic to post about over on GroveSocial's new Model Railroading Forum! We've been looking for people interested in posting over there to get the ball rolling.
