I don't see anything talking about your focus on the manufacturing sector. If you are going to focus on that, it seems like the web site should really speak to that. Make sure that people looking at the web site have no doubt that you are experienced on manufacturing and make an effort to focus on that.

RE: U.S. losing tech talent to Canada
The US is very anti-immigration, more than just about anywhere (except Japan.) We lose tons of talent simply because we either turn them away outright or they just give up because it is not worth it. It's more than just losing incoming talent, talent flows out of the US as well.

RE: Netflix and AT&T strike deal to boost streaming speeds
That's good for the AT&T people. But what about people on fast networks?

RE: New Uniquiti SIP Phones
This also means, I supposed, that Ubiquiti has effectively just gone 95% of the way towards being a PC maker. Androids as desktops are already out there, as rare and silly as they are. Put a bigger screen, more memory and a faster CPU in one of these phones, use the BlueTooth to hook up a keyboard and mouse and suddenly you have a full blown desktop for, say, $200! And instead of Active Directory, it has the Ubiquiti controller software.

RE: New Uniquiti SIP Phones
Those are really impressive looking. I wonder if running Android on them will not cause a lot of unnecessary complications, though. Those phones will get used for so many different things and be so subject to malware and just junk being loaded onto them. Hopefully the controller allows for some actual management and locking down.

RE: So where are you located?
Oh, just realized what the actual topic of this thread was. Was thinking it was just asking about where we are located.

Oracle Surprises Customers with Huge Licensing Increase on Patch
This one is a pretty big surprise. Apply a normal database update and suddenly your licensing might increase by $23,000 per CPU! Watch out for this if you are running Oracle databases!

RE: Dominica on the Lenticular Last Supper
Did you pee yourself? It's pretty funny. Of course, not being from the US, much of the joke is in the accent so it might not translate well outside of the region.

RE: Seattle or Portland?
It's true, being a tourist can be very misleading. Better, if possible, is to rent an apartment by the month and try living in a place. Some cities, famously Barcelona, is considered a top world travel destination but often cited as being pretty hard to live in.

RE: External Domain Accounts
Many vendors, because their own networks have little of value on them, have very insecure networks too. So over-exposing yourself to them can be dangerous. Not all vendors, of course. But often you don't know what their network is like and if it is compromised and it gets access to your network you can be heavily exposed. This is where remote views are good, LogMeIn, TeamViewer or RDP, because they can't siphon data straight off of your network through them nor can a virus travel through them. The worst is having a direct VPN tunnel to a vendor. Massive exposure in both directions and if you have a VPN tunnel to them, chances are they have VPN tunnels to lots of clients at the same time. It's the digital equivalent to an unprotected orgy. Using VPNs between different companies is like a field day for malware.
