You seem to have a basic misunderstanding of what GBI is.

As well as some unfounded bias that Red states contribute more than Blue states. In fact the exact opposite is true. I think if you do some actual research youll find most of your opinions on governance are wrong.

Every single "Red state' is dependent on "Blue states" for money. Yes this means places like WV, KY, FLA, all of them depend on places CA WA NY, DE. You can actually look this up.

@jaredbusch Yes doesnt it halve throughput?

No, it's not that simplistic. It lowers throughput, but by all kinds of different amounts at different times. Might do it just a tiny minuscule bit in one case, might lower by 90% in others.

Good work! I admit I would have been to lazy to go through all that. I would just have written a program to deal with it straight up instead instead of trying to use nix commands and scripting. Anything to avoid "escape hell" as I like to call it.

It seems like Quickbook is using Sybase so I don't see a problem there. Samba share will work the same as a share on a Windows server so no problem there either.

"Real" Sybase is UNIX only, I believe. It's a database server, not a shared file. The Sybase shared file is some silly crap that isn't what anyone means when they refer to Sybase.

Nope, don't need it, I use Chocolatey to install most of that junk.

As JB said, take away admin rights and most of these problems go away.

Don't support home users and the issues ALL go away.

      Touche!

      Hehe, congratulations 😉

Just wondering.. will you daisy-chain all your 48 port switches using the SFP+ ports or are you going to deploy some XG-16 as core switches? That's what I did. I must admit that they aren't real core switches, they lack quite some L3 functionality, but it's ok for what I'm doing. BTW, I'm using the EdgeSwitch line, not UniFi.

Also, your 17 year old will probably change his mind next week. And then again the week after that. And again this afternoon.

This is a bunch of shit.

No it isnt. I added a conditional probably at the beginning. The vast majority of people at 17 are clueless about what they want for their future, except for some nebulous 'to get a job' type goal that their parents have foisted on them.
Just because you swear and berate people on a forum doesnt make you correct.

So who is the pot and who is the kettle?

Here's a SaltStack repo for Windows software:
      https://github.com/saltstack/salt-winrepo-ng

These are ready to go and install via your own State files, or CLI.

I was looking at a lot of those files, and it would appear to be very easy to setup my own in house repo. I will eventually be trying that.

@cherryman If you are also using Jira and a few other Atlassian tools, then I'd pick Confluence too. But if it is your only tool from them, I don't think that it is a strong wiki entry on its own.

We are also using Jira to split up several ticket systems based on their usecase. Dev, Admins, Customer Service and so on.

      Aren't the Devs using GitHub/GitLab?

GitHub is a competitor for BitBucket, not Jira, from Atlassian

I think it's a major waste of resources. That's why most (99,9%) of Linux distros suck. Lack of resources required to make it viable and keep it updated.

Yup, this is what gets Korora. Mint is one of the few that has resources to do what it does, and Deepin. Other than those, it seems that mostly it is just the big commercial vendor systems (RH, Suse, and Canonical) that can keep things tight enough to be truly viable. Lots of good research and testing out there from smaller distros, but the solidness that only the big three can bring is pretty important.

Just found out that I qualify for partial student loan forgiveness with this new job. Becuase of my divorce and subsequent child support payments I haven't paid off any of my student loan debt. Now I might have up to $63,000 forgiven.

Fyi...loan forgiveness is also considered income and the IRS will tax the crap out of it and potentially put you in another tax bracket.

Even so - the tax will only be 35% or less of the $63K, so he'll get at least 40K of actual reduction in payment. I call that a win.

I beg to differ, NethServer IS CentOS 7 + a framework (web interface and automations) on top.
We have already scenarios like that, I would give it a try. If you need support please just ask.

This looks like a good project, defiantly keep us updated with how it all goes, I think Nethserver is brilliant, haven't tried it with that amount of users though.
