Mac O365 update issue
WARNING:
Had a client that is slow to update (they only reach out to me in an emergency). Well they are having one now.
Microsoft has just pushed out an Office365 update that broke Outlook on El Capitan 10.11. The cure appears to be to update those users to Sierra 10.12.

RE: Server 2k8 Domain, Force all computer to workgroup
We were actually hired by another MSP to do this for them. So.... no idea what their full plans are. Not my Monkeys not my Circus.

Last day before VACATION!!! WOOT!! Though I am sure I will be around here still. When you work from home and other members of the house are still working... I am sure I will end up at my desk a bit too.

RE: Software to manage Service & Parts Business
@bigbear said in Software to manage Service & Parts Business:
Have a friend with a ship that remanufactures starters, sells hundreds of parts in their retail store side and also does service/starter installations.
I'm not looking to get into this business but while I was installing a phone system he asked me the typical "what software can I get to better manage my business, ditch quickbooks"
As ML is big on open source I assume some of you might have some good recommendations?
I vote for Xero there are lots of add-ons for all kinds of inventory tracking etc. It is def. the best thing on the market for accounting and having any sort of stability (because QB sucks) and all the pieces you actually need without any of the crap you don't.

RE: Needing a bit of a rant, thanks Microsoft!

@scottalanmiller But you're so old they don't even mention that.
He's younger than me, I think.
or damned close.Yonuger than @art_of_shred and @Minion-Queen too
Rub it in: FYI @scottalanmiller is only a week younger than @art_of_shred and 6 weeks younger than me.
At your age that's not really much a difference.
THANK YOU!! I have been telling both of them it doesn't count for years! I also remind them I have all my hair and it's not gray as often as possible

Important aspect of hiring an MSP.... make sure you actually hired them. Whoops.

So many companies refuse to pay for services then scream when they don't get them....

So just left a new client's office. They paid $500 for some Indian scam company to do their IT for 2 years. There was a file on the desktop called scan.bat that when run essentially echoed different percents complete and then at the end echoed you have 5823 issues that need to be resolved (along with some other junk). There was another batch file called reset that added and removed a bunch of registries and deleted some files.
Wow - so what did they say when you wanted $500 a month or more?
I didn't even quote anything. I just charged them for the time I was there and promptly ran away.
Smart

RE: Non-IT News Thread
I have lived where people do not get vaccinations. It is horrible to see people with Polio etc and dying of simple to cure things. Vaccinations for deadly things are an amazing part of modern medicine. However don't for the love of all that is good overload your immune system all at once. Jeeze that is just stupid. Parents that allow their kids to get 10 shots in a visit are idiots.
