@dashrender said in Star Wars - What do you like about the new movies, and what is not so great?:

I'm not a fan of the new movies. VII was a rehash of EP IV, really? another trench run? another deathstar?

That whole sucking the light out of a star, yet somehow the star reignites (lights back up)?

Hyperspace through shields? (falcon had to leave hyperspace super close to the planet and not crash)
This part speaks to Kelly's question - hyperspace into ships destroys them? Only thing I can think here is the idea is that they aren't fully in hyperspace yet, just going super fast, so that 'could' make sense.

While I didn't like Luke's (OK really the writer's/director's vision) disregard for the Jedi, etc - but I can accept it, not where I wanted it to go - but fine, it's a new direction.

I really did like the new force powers we saw - Luke projecting himself across the galaxy for example.

OK that more or less handles the new trilogy.

Rogue One for me is tied for best movie compared to ESB. It felt like it belonged in that universe. it fills in the gaps - why shooting a small port on the surface actually cased the DS to explode - Great explanation! I also loved all the easter eggs. It felt grand and definitely part of the SW universe. My main complaint - the horrible 3d job on Leia's face at the end. Luckily I didn't get that at all from Tarkin's face earlier in the movie.

Onto Solo - as a space robbery movie - it was fine, fun even - as a SW movie - meh. It filled in some gaps just like RO did, but for the most part I didn't care. There also seemed to be a preachy part in it with the whole pansexual thing ( and EP VIII had a preachy about corporations thing with the casino/arms sales).
In the end I didn't care about any character except Lando - that actor did a fantastic job. I guess I would like to see a continuation of the Maul storyline, but that seems unlikely.

I think Solo bombed mainly because The Last Jedi offended so many people. People just hated the direction TLJ went, so they showed that displeasure by not seeing Solo. The sucky thing about that is that Solo was basically an OK movie, not great like Rogue One (to me at least) but definitely deserved better in the boxoffice. And now, because of the wreck that was TLJ caused Solo to tank - now we won't see any more outside the box movies for a while.

I think this is pretty fair. The one thing I'd add is that regardless of anything, Star Wars fans are probably the hardest group of fans to please

Maybe, but I don't hear much grousing about Rogue One. Most people really liked it. TFA and TLJ are just terrible, especially in light of the years of content created by the novels and comics that Disney trashed.

@siringo said in W10 VPN connection via iPhone = Grrr:

I've bootcamped my Macbook (I can run OSX & W10).

When I boot up OSX, tether to the phone, setup the VPN connection within OSX (using Cisco IPSec), I can log into the VPN no problem, it's instant.

When I boot up W10, tether to the phone and try to setup the VPN connection using any configuration of the W10 VPN client, I just can't get it to connect.

I don't think it's the phone either, I think it's the W10 VPN client in some way.

I've looked for alternative VPN client software for Windows 10, but not been able to locate any.

So I'm wondering if anyone has had success running IPSec via the W10 VPN client through an iPhone with iOS 12+???

Turn on verbose logging, and then post your errors here. That will give us more to work with.

I'm suspecting you mean logging on the VPN server???

I'm trying to connect to a VPN endpoint that is part our network maintained by our telco. I've spoken with the Telco about this problem and they've not been much help.

Logging on the client. Then you can see where it is failing.

@black3dynamite Have you played SWTOR? It is like a Star Wars movie. You even find out what happens to Malak and Revan.

I haven't. I was more of console gamer. Maybe I'll try it if its on Steam.

      https://store.steampowered.com/app/32370/STAR_WARS__Knights_of_the_Old_Republic/

It goes on sale most of the Steam sales for at least 50% off if not more. It has also been in two Humble Bundles.

    • MeshCentral - Anyone tried this?

I ran across this on another site, and I was curious if any of you have worked with it: https://www.meshcommander.com/meshcentral2. I like the idea of being able to drop a Raspberry Pi on a site and then use it for remote admin of Windows machines. Assuming the software itself is secure it would be much simpler to provide remote support than many other tools out there, and much more inexpensive.

I've just been reading up on all the wonders of PoE powered lighting and I was just wondering if anyone here has had to deal with these installations before. What are your experiences? Are they worth the pricing with new buildings?

I haven't dealt with them directly, but I've talked to a few people at my current place of employment where they've been installed on a few buildings. The non scientific conclusion is that they don't actually save much money since they just move everything back to the switch rather than at each light. This was a general impression by those who install and manage them, not the people who pay for them.

LOL Maroon 5 is the most forgettable part. Travis Scott couldn't censor himself so it was quiet for a while. Then Big Boi shows up LOL

One solution would be to just give them an Exchange Online P1 license: https://products.office.com/en-us/exchange/compare-microsoft-exchange-online-plans. This would limit them to just email. That is the technical side of things. I'm with everyone else here, the requestor needs to provide a business justification and upline approval for this.

Don't remember seeing P1. That could be the solution if they really want this.

It isn't heavily advertised. You kind of need to already know what it is to be able to find it.

Measles cases triple globally in 2019, says UN

The number of measles cases reported worldwide in the first three months of 2019 has tripled compared with the same time last year, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
The UN body said provisional data indicated a "a clear trend", with all regions of the world seeing outbreaks.

World deemed "too stupid" to be healthy.

      Darwinism?

Can we just "Darwinize" all the anti-vaxxer parents already and take their children away from them so they can grow up healthy?

(I mostly want to execute the anti-vaxxers and other scientifically illiterate folks)

That is an aggressive thing to say. What it sounded like to me was "I want all the people who don't agree to be killed and their rights as parents to be taken away." We don't even kill people who actively harm children in our society. What makes those who are potentially passively harming their children so much worse?

Those same parents are actively harming other people's children; That's the difference.

No, they are potentially, passively harming other people's children. Even so, advocating for the execution of them when we do not execute people who do actively kill other people's children seems extreme. I'm not injecting an opinion on vaccinations, but on the violence of the sentiment.

Thanks for posting this @Nic. I had someone open a credit card in my name with information stolen from Equifax. Luckily they didn't use it for anything before it got flagged.

Glad it got caught before causing you any damage. You can still claim any time you spent dealing with this, such as time on the phone with credit agencies or your bank.

Yup, I already put in for that. Yay money 🙂

WOW - if you are responsible for the bill, then the PII is within your purview, I would think. it's really sounding like a scam, and I'd likely threaten litigation if they don't provide the verification or drop the claim of charges.

After I mentioned getting legal involved the person from dropbox has backed off and said they just want to understand our needs so that they can be a consultant and support us. I CAN'T TELL YOU OUR NEEDS IF YOU WON'T TELL ME WHO IS USING YOUR SERVICE SO I CAN ASK THEM WHAT THEIR NEEDS ARE!

umm, is it just me or are the reviews and questions for this product all over the place? I've seen people post wrong reviews before, but this is way beyond anything I've seen before. Soap, phone case, dress, medicine, gauge, purse? All in the reviews. This charger must do it all.

This is hilarious. I've seen them merge products before, but this goes beyond the normal.

    • BitWarden - Self Hosted for many users

The IT department has been talking internally for some time about password managers and recommendations for end users. I came back to BitWarden as a potential solution due to cost. Have any of you deployed the self-hosted version for multiple users? I am curious how well it works, and what you had to do to make it usable and accessible. Are there any alternatives that combine multi user management and reasonable cost (if not zero)?
