      IRJI

The only risk here is having a laptop stolen and giving the attacker more time to try to breach a system with cached credentials.

You can mitigate that by using bit locker and requiring MFA on all important accounts (should be the standard anyway).

You can however use an unofficial Bitwarden server fork that is free.

Is it a fork? Looks like a separate project.

Yeah, you are right. I didnt know much about it. My coworker uses it for his personal server and really likes it. When I saw this thread I asked him about it again so I could help @Kelly clear things up.

Looks perfectly nice, wish it had more of a "showing it off" website.

He says its actively maintained and follows BW updates pretty frequently.

I did see that from 0patch. I don't know that I want to deploy their tool across my 2,000+ end points for this one problem.

So it was only verbal demands to pay for 600 users? no actual bill sent?

      yeah - scummy sales BS.

Sounds like they make it scummy sales BS only after getting caught doing something far more illegal. Don't let them water it down after the fact. It's like getting caught trying to hot wire a car but convincing the cops that they weren't stealing the car, just stealing the Taco Bell food that they saw in the car... still illegal but not grand theft auto that they were actually caught attempting in the beginning.

So many posts in the thread that it went to, I gave up trying to find it. I'm assuming that it is there. I'll test this more when we have a smaller fork to send it to.

For the opensource side. https://www.opsi.org may have something of what you're looking at. I tested it out in the past but SCCM fit with what the management was looking to do.

Just to be clear, I'm not as concerned about the deployment side of things (yet). Do how much is opsi and SCCM: Software Center oriented around end users and how much around administration? I know it should be part of the fabric. I'm just trying to modernize some processes that have been enshrined in the halls of familiarity, and this is the first step for us.

Software Center is almost 100% end user oriented. If you are looking to automate this without hands you wouldn't even expose the interface. I think Opsi is the opposite. I don't think, if I recall, it has any real means for the end users to request applications outside of a really bad web interface... even then I may be mistaken.

That's good to know. I had only done some surface digging into Software Center, and then when I hit the opsi website it looked as you describe it now, so I wanted to be sure that I was communicating clearly. Thanks.

How I think my peers are doing (social media syndrom

This one is tough because we tend to associate a lot of people as peers, and to some degree are correct. But, for example...

If you feel as a Linux Admin that a Windows Admin is a peer, you will likely always have one person that feels that they are "behind" on PowerShell and object scripting, and one that always feels that they are "behind" on text processing. But really, it's because they aren't direct peers. Sure, they are equals, but they aren't doing the exact same job.

Exactly why I refer to this as the Social Media syndrome. "Based on my perception of myself in relation to this narrow slice of what I see of you (not allowing for any context), I am not as good as you." Even two Windows Admins will not have the same sets of responsibilities and scope within their job. IT (and many other jobs) is full of "oughts". I ought to do more automation. I ought to have a <type> plan. I ought to have more documentation. I ought to understand this LOB software better. I ought... I have judged myself based on my oughts and other based on their successes. It is a deceptive, and ultimately destructive, perception.

I signed up for an account and got a sales call before I had even gotten my "confirm account" email. Not a great start.

That's what it was like for us the first time around. They just kept calling, too.

But this time, so far so good.

Is anyone using the ubiquiti unifi video software?

I am and I also have Wyze.

What cameras are you using with the Ubiquiti nvr?

Does the ubiquiti unifi only work with ubiquiti cameras

      Stolen from their forum:

the UniFi Video software (UFV) only works with Ubiquiti cameras and that the UniFi Video Cameras (UVC) only work with UniFi Video software. Ubiquiti is on record as stating that there is no intention for UFV to support other brands of camera.

The Unifi Video software can stream an RTSP feed of each camera, but the cameras have to connect to Unifi Video first.

Just a note on this in case it's missed. All of the G3 camera's, when setting them up, provide the option for "standalone" (your own RTSP server) or "UniFi Video" (their software/hardware) in the later firmware.
I have a few G3-Flex going to BlueIris without issue and no UFV in the chain.

      Correct.

I misread that. Yeah only 140 agents.

      Apparently I am far behind.

We use it pretty extensively 🙂

@scottalanmiller - Just curious are you still using Tactical or just Mesh these days? I've been playing around with Tactical internally and definitely a great solution. I know you mentioned a while back you were using that and Mesh separate from each other.

We use both. Tactical has been pretty good. Definitely use Mesh 90% of the time and Tactical just 10%. But it has been a good tool and we like it.

@kelly said in What is your perspective on the overall tone of interactions here on ML?:

First off, I do not want to have some kind of discussion about civility or point fingers. However, I have noticed from a number of threads that there is a general tendency in the community to find something about a post/topic/thread that is wrong/inaccurate/incomplete and focus on that item to the (to me) detriment of the overall thread.

Am I being too sensitive, or can this be a somewhat hostile place at times? (Telling me that I'm wrong here is not being hostile, btw.)

When I first came here I thought the need for absolute perfection (semantics as an example) was a negative, but I can honestly say that isn't the case. I have been much more accurate with what I am discussing on interviews and it's directly related to this community. At the same time a thread becomes naturally hostile when someone attacks the person instead of the concept being discussed, regardless of how wrong they are. I've been incorrect a lot of the time and when civil discourse occurs it's extremely beneficial for everyone.

      It's a good point...

Learning to be more specific in the questions you are asking, and expecting results and answers based on your question.
