What's your first project for it?

Drop a 2016 VM onto it. Run some bench marks. It's already got a raid-1 of the 2 disks and XenServer is installed along with Orchestra.

Orchestra as a UI does not feel intuitive. XenCenter is almost exactly the same as Hyper-v Or VMWare, Orchestra feels very different. Too many things spread out on the screen for me.

How is that different/better to the half a dozen chat apps I have already which do exactly that?

Apple have a big leap forward in their OS with Imessage, I can send SMSes to my contacts via my computer but it relays through the phone, perfect.

XC is the "easy" one, XO is the good one. I think that ESXi lacks an XO quality interface.

Yeah but it's not good. It's a metrofied horrible UI with no text labels. Icons for days.

I get the principle of the interface but the execution is awful if you want to get stuff done. It takes up way too much space on screen to do anything, the tool tips which are in XenCentre are gone from Xen Orchestra, all the stuff that people who live and breathe Xen take for granted is missing from a brand new admin.

      I blame the EU.

On a serious note that looks like an SSL connection error, so not likely to be OS or power based or the cause of the problem.

@Joel said in Computer randomly crashes and shuts down!:

@Breffni-Potter Any ideas how i can resolve?

How often does the machine shut down? Can you drop a monitoring agent onto it?

Flatten the machine and reinstall Windows 7. Yes you could trouble-shoot it but this would immediately fix any software issues.

If it's hardware, that narrows it down a lot.

Horse and cart was perfectly suitable as a mode of transport until someone came up with something new. You only know if a good idea will fly by testing it sometimes.

    • RE: Tape drive alternative besides online backup for offsite backup

Backup to a Synology box rather than a single USB. You can then get iSCSI mounting direct. A gigabit network will be faster than a usb 2.0 connection for backups. You want speed of restore as well as speed of backup.

I already have a local backup for speed. I need an offsite backup.

      Site to site link.

Then you eliminate the need for the careless mistake prone human who will forget to take the USB out of the server.

      Are we surprised?

Hopefully they'll extend it another week or something.

      No they won't.

If businesses did not see Windows 10 coming for 2 years, then they need to pay the tax of upgrading after the 364 days of free upgrade.
