    • RE: Windows 7 64 pro - ISO

I've got a legit ISO for Wndows 7 pro, how quickly do you need it? I could upload it tonight and point it in your direction?

Also, I keep running into this but you don't need the original OEM install media 99% of the time, as long as it's a genuine ISO, it works fine.

Only volume media/licenses are a bit funny.

Now that I've seen it...I can tell you that this tool:

      Runs off it.

@Breffni-Potter What is the name of the tool? Or is this something developed in house?

The plan is to make it public at some point but I want to eat my own food first before letting the universe have it, it's a complete in house project but actually I think we could spin it out.

On the other hand if it's a complete disaster, we'll go back to market and try to find a tool...sadly it does not exist.

I gave up on that linux VM so can't test it but I tried many things under the sun involving ALSA and PulseAudio, I had a real Linux brain box helping me out with it and neither of us could get it working after a week of trying different things out.

So that's not urgent at all. You made me curious, so maybe I'll take a look into it during the next few days 😉

Oh it was urgent 3 months ago 🙂

The fix was to bite the bullet and pay triple the cost for a Windows VM to do it.

      @JaredBusch said

It looks nice, but $15/user/month is higher than I want to pay for a helpdesk. That is more than full Office 365 SMB plans.

But you are comparing apples to oranges. I can't find any ticketing systems cheaper than that which afford all the features it does, unless you know of one I've not seen yet?

Instead of developing one, right from scratch, would it be a bad idea to develop one, based on an existing Open Source solution ?

Because of the nature of software, you kind of need to start from scratch to get what you want, A lot of things have to be re-done and re-written when you take someone else's tool and try to shoe horn it in.

    • RE: I did a thing, have a quick Linux question

      Do all three.

Set yourself a challenge that across a 12 month period, you will learn all 3 environments. Then you'll be far better served across any job role, you'll understand the strengths and weaknesses of them and how to mange them.

The biggest career set back for any IT guy is complacency and standing still, keep pushing yourself out of your comfort zone.

And whilst you are tearing 1 environment down, you get to learn how to migrate between hyper-visors as well.

My gut says this is a very bad idea.

Where is the line between out-right harassment, being annoying, or just pushy sales tactics?

Who makes the decision on that? Who provides the evidence? Are we willing to black list a 5000+ employee company because 10 people in that company were idiots?

    • RE: Simplivity - anyone use them?

Well, this thread blew up with activity pretty quickly.

@virtualrick - Firstly thanks for listening, then responding and not running away. When dealing with @scottalanmiller remember on his own profile his motto is: ""If it can be said in 100 words, I can say it in 1,000."" So it's a bit bombastic at times when you are not used to his pace. (how does he write so much, so quickly...)

So thank you for sticking around and listening, I doubt you guys have a presence in the UK so I don't think we'll cross over but I wish the best of luck with getting into the SMB space in the US.

I'm with you on the first two but for the second two I'd investigate to see if there's some underlying reason for the low drive. Could be a medical or family issue that could be corrected with some help. Especially if they were previously a good employee.

Yes but then that could also trigger the first 2 to happen as well.

I'm assuming that the usual reasonable things have been done and this has been over time, not a one off "YOU FIRED!!!" because reasons.

My 5th one would be, useless team leaders who can't handle the 1st four things.

The cost of the tool to do it? Freely available on the internet and the dark web.

I don't like install Antivirus in Windows Servers, just install it in very specific case. terribles experiences with Gdata and Nod32

I've run AV from 5 different big name providers on servers, only 1 of them caused serious issues, the rest are fine.

None of those 5 were ESET products or GData though.

You can and should use security products on a server (Notice I did not say antivirus)

I thought LinkedIn was only a spam company. Sure I have an account there, but rarely look at it. I constantly have my "friends" upvoting me for skills they have no idea if I know about or not.

You know my friends never seem to do that. It's always IT pros that actually know a little about me that do it, from what I can tell. Or so I want to think. But it's normally things that I really do work on and people who really should have some idea if I know. Maybe I'm just unlucky that my friends won't vote for my stuff and most people get that. Almost everyone on my LI is a technical colleague, though.

I mostly don't get SPAM from LI, but there is rather a bit nonetheless.

Have you ever actually read the articles people write? It's scares me even more than the Spiceworks Community. Yeah, that was a waste of 10 minutes of my time.

I write lovely articles over there 🙂 probably no one reads them though.

And yes, Lepide need some help badly on Spiceworks...I've never seen anything positive, I'd be replying to a complicated issue someone is having and along comes "Lepide product X can help you"

No no no! Stop it...Do something else.

      Grief, NK2 edit?

What I and others have said very specifically and deliberately.

      • It's a cache, it is prone to corruption or deletion.
      • It is not a contact list, it is not saved safely
      • If someone or a company is important to you, SAVE them as a contact.

This is the equivilant of writing post it notes of the customers you need to call, then putting them on the outside wall of your company building and hoping when you come back, they will still be there.

For Mac, I am not sure of what is available.

It's a poor article when most of the "maestros" list their own tools they sell along with a token few that everyone already has heard of.

Maybe pick 10 people, list their credentials and background and have better content from 10 rather than 85 which are mostly poor.

Do you have a consultant or a repair man?

A repair man you pay to fix it when it breaks, a consultant is someone who stops it breaking to begin with.

What has his response been to these questions?
