Perhaps a better question would be:

What do people here do? License Exchange Online and other O365 services through Microsoft?

It seemed that most people recommended going elsewhere for Exchange Online, mainly for the support. Is that also the case with the other MS products?

BTW: it turns out I do not think I can move from my "Exchange Online Plan 1" to "Office 365 Business Essentials".

The switch plans wizard says I can do it, but from everything I have Googled, it cannot be done.

I guess I could just give it a shot.

And with a product like DropBox Busniess I can collaborate by SHARING, but not working on the document at the same time.

They need to consider themselves power users if they don't want to pay for convenience. In which case Chromebooks are rules out and they need to acquaint themselves with how things work. Just like in Dustin's thread earlier today.

If you want "easy" you do what is expected. If you want "free at any cost" you suck it up buttercup and get an advanced desktop and do your own management of things.

      Good point. Points.

If you are talking about deleting files you need to stop people from using that kind of storage 🙂

Yes, but you can't have it both ways.

Yes, grandmom, move all your data to the cloud. BUT...don't do this, and be sure to use all the individual cloud products (such as) that come with your individual products.

I'm not trying to be argumentative, but I still don't see 100% how just backing up a PC is easier than moving to the cloud, for the AVERAGE user, or below average user.

@BRRABill is DropBox for Business an actual product? I'm not sure of their product names.

It's actually called DropBox Business, I see.

      https://www.dropbox.com/business

It was recommended by a few here in my other thread.

I was going to put THIS thread in THAT thread, but thought it might be better separeted.

What about something like the user's iPhone backup? How does a Chromebook deal with that?

A typical user should be on iCloud, not managing their own phone backups.

A great suggestion, except for cost, if they want free.

      Always a trade-off, I know.

I don't know many end users doing text file editing.

I cited that as the easiest file type to mention.

But what about photos that are edited, PDF files, just about anything you could inadvertently overwrite with something else?

Yes, if you delete it, it's in the Recycle Bin, but what about inadvertent changes or renaming?

      What is DBfB?

I'm making up my own acronyms now!

      DBfb = DropBox for Business
DBfP = DropBpx for Personal Use
ODfP = OneDrive for Personal use

@Dashrender is correct. Typical home users need Chromebooks.

I want to come back to this for a second.

What about something like the user's iPhone backup? How does a Chromebook deal with that?

Or what something like ODfP that doesn't version, say, text files and you want to go back to a previous version?

Well, I was very excited to learn that ODfP does file versioning.

However, while trying to figure out how long the versions are kept for, I came to find out it only does this for OFFICE files. Not any other type of files.

Does anyone know if ODfB allows versioning of all files?

      What about DBfP or DBfB?

We use N-Able and have been pretty happy with it.

I do believe there is a lot more outsourcing available for Continuum, though.

      One option with TeamViewer:
They will work with you on pricing. I was looking at a one seat license and they came back with an attractive monthly option for me. Was like $40 if I remember.

      Interesting.

It does versioning. That is pretty cool as well.

And why haven't I been doing all this? LOL.

I have to admit, I never really gave any of the Office stuff much thought.

But this weekend, I started moving my files off my laptop and onto ODfP (is that an acronym?), and I just used it to get the output from MInt to this forum (via my PC).

I didn't realize, but with my OFfP plan I can also edit Office files. Pretty cool.

Though I currently Googling how to turn the "autosave" feature off. Sometimes I don't want to autosave something!
