What I really wanted was Exchange Online - but for $1 more a month It was totally worth it to get the O365 Small Business Essentials package for Office Apps online, 1TB OneDrive for Business, and Sharepoint.

That's exactly what I am looking to do.

Correct. We provide one line of support and because they come through a high level partner MS gives a higher level of support as well. The agreement is still directly through MS and payment is still directly through MS. We are a partner of record, not a reseller. No money is exchanged with us.

And the financial incentive comes from ... charging for the support? Or can you charge more than MS but MS just does the billing?

Figuring out all of the applications that one uses can be difficult. Some things are only used once in a while which makes it that much harder.

(Not bringing this up because of desktop imaging!)

That's one of the things i mentioned about imaging. I forget 3/4 of the stuff I use. But I guess if I need it, I can find it again.

Did you consider fixing the user? Spam filtering on the desktop, random third party drive encryption.... these are worrisome things to begin with.

Yes, I have tried that. πŸ™‚

The encryption is from me. It's just a program from Wave Systems (Embassy Security Center) that enables the encryption on her Samsung drive. Nothing to worry about there.

It sounds like your only issue was with a disk encryption system. Unfortunately I have never heard of that one. Have you spoken to Webroot support or @nic to see if there is something that needs to be done to make sure that that works?

I called Webroot support, and they said it was a Microsoft problem. I called Wave support, and they said certain AV programs can mess with the security signon they use.

Ultimately, since the user was looking for more than just AV, I"m just going back to Norton.

But I have nothing against Webroot. I've been looking for something to recommend to my SOHO clients.

So you guys really like Webroot?

      It's intriguing, though.

Sounds like MalwareBytes is the way to go, though, in this situation.Short of ChromeBooks and Linux. Not sure either of those are good gaming options. πŸ™‚

@scottalanmiller you've run MBAM along WITH AV with no issues?

DeepFreeze prevents the system from writing anything to disk.

So for users that want to download game add-ons and the like, this probably isn't a good option?

Wow.. I agree with Scott here, It looks like as long as you have SA, you're covered for that that backup product does. Interesting.

Then how can you argue against:
"If they are turned on and used in any active mode, such as backup of production data, they are considered β€œwarm” backups and should be licensed separately as any production server."

Isn't the device backing up production data?

Best option: Move to a Chromebook
      Second best: Linux desktop
Third best: Windows with Deep Freeze
Fourth best: Windows with Webroot and MalwareBytes

What? No Mac mention in there, too? LOL.

I'm going to look into Deep Freeze.

Does that freeze the entire machine, or just settings?

Like if the kid wants to download skins for a game, or update the game, etc.. Would that be allowed?

I think they are downloading stuff from rogue sites for their games. User education has failed.

They are young men, so other malicious sites could also be involved.

We use Webroot and MalwareBytes, they both work very well.

Webroot seems to have a great reputation.

I was surprised we had these issues, but as you (I think) implied it's apples to oranges.

      I don't know.

They were using Norton 360 and I guess it was filtering out SPAM for them.

I got a call later in the week about all this SPAM that was coming in that wasn't there before Webroot.

You are right, the two of them have nothing to do with each other.

I usually will only run one type of AV at a time... That said, I'm running Webroot right now... my machine is blazing fast, and WebRoot has stopped a few nasties for me!

I just installed Webroot on someone's machine.

It killed their drive encryption program (from Wave for a Samsung EVO), and is letting in a lot more SPAM than Norton did.

I know Webroot gets good reviews, though.

    • PC Malware Program Recommendation

What experience does anyone have with always-on Malware-only type programs for the PC, such as MalwareBytes.

I have a friend who has kids who keep getting his machine infected with malware.

It seems like viruses are barely even an issue anymore, and most of the virus software I've ever seen doesn't catch this stuff.

They say MBAM can run in tandem with an AV product. Was just curios at to everyone's experience and recommendations.

Ha ha, we are at @ntg
But there are lots of them, we are certainly not the only ones. Nearly anyone working with O365 is a partner.

So people buy the O365 service through YOU and not directly through MS? And in turn you provide the support?

If you want a different "family" of account, you have to make the decision up front.

And the "downside" as discussed in another thread about enterprise pricing is pricing, right?

In that Business Essentials at $5/user is the same as E1 which is $8.

Someone posted afterwards a few posts down...

"To a partner, not a reseller. Go to a reseller and you get less, not more. Go to a partner and you get more. Resellers like GoDaddy can shave the price but you lose control that you otherwise have."

My bad. I misread, and then misremembered this from before. It WAS my first thread, im my defense.

"it's to late for you now.. but if you move a company that way..make sure you buy O365 from a reseller.
the cost is exactly the same.. but they become your support.
they can open tickets with MS for you often getting better results."

      A RESELLER of O365.

      Got it.
