if you split the load over two server, you're still loosing 50% of your stuff, and how usable is your business with one but not the other?

Yeah I guess I was thinking it would be easier to spin in up off a backup, but it wouldn't be that much worse to do it twice. Plus I am considering outsourcing the e-mail in the near future anyway.

      @Breffni-Potter

I went through this whole thing with @scottalanmiller once. You'll never win. ๐Ÿ™‚

My argument at the time was that if I scouted out, say, 4 products I thought were the best, and only sold/used those at client sites, there was nothing wrong with that. His take was that is not being an IT consultant, it is being a reseller/salesman.

I still never agreed with him, but I do understand his point.

I'm sorry, but the presentation isn't exactly what I would have expected after what was said here before. I totally understand that it is supposed to be great, but does it have to look like this?

If it's like most good BBQ places, it gets messy.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is a roll of paper towels on the table.

In the interest of reliability and compatibility, we opted to only support enterprise level SSDs. We actually only recently supported non-Dell drives because of those same reasons. We started talking with Edge and found a partner who would co-developer firmware to limit the risk to our customers. If Dell makes a firmware change, we didn't want our customers to experience any issues with their drives.

That what made me reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally nervous about non-DELL drives.

Not that anything would happen, but the last thing you need is some change form DELL and then your drives stop working, or booting.

Total BS that they do that, but whatever. It's their company and there are other options.

I did throw all these ideas onto another forum, I will say. I'm glad I was directed here, though. ๐Ÿ™‚

And trust me, I have been practicing with Hyper-V. I've set up quite a few test servers on 2012 R2, Hyper-V. The whole nine yards. Now I ready to rumble!

Though highly considering what you are saying!

      Am I a VAR?

      Yep.

I mean, it's not my business. I'm just saying if that is the work I did, that would be a VAR.

Getting messy is OK, but does it have to be such a plate?

It's pretty typical of BBQ places here.

      Plastic silverware as well, usually.

    • RE: Backup System For 5 PC SMB

I guess I should have clarified this more when I said I wanted to spin up a VM, but I need this to be an image based backup so they can get back up and running quicker.

I just assumed (I know, I know) everyone does image backups these days.

I also use CrashPlan but in the event of a system crash, it's a pain.

    • RE: Intern Bio

My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year-old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet.

My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes, he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament.

My childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring, weโ€™d make meat helmets.

When I was insolent, I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds โ€“ pretty standard, really. At the age of twelve, I received my first scribe.

At the age of fourteen, a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. At the age of 18, I went off to evil medical school. At the age of 25, I took up tap dancing. I wanted to be a quadruple threat โ€” an actor, dancerโ€ฆ

Early Sept is bad with kids starting school and sports and getting into that swing (why I can't go this year). Later Sept would be better and especially if I have a year notice then I should be able to actually make the commute!

      Yeah that's my boat.

    • RE: Backup System For 5 PC SMB

I've many, many, many times told many, many, many SMBs they are wasting time/money/etc and should install a server/etc. It is a huge brick wall most of the time. And these are my friends, not people we are trying to get jobs from.

It's actually a reason we decided not to go into the small (20 person or less) MSP space. (I'll have to post on the MSP thread another day.) It's just too much time fighting to get companies to a simple baseline.

IBut, I am interested in all the great new product ideas this thread will pop up, and I am sure we'll get a good solution. Errrr...a solution that is OK, at least!

      Yes.

How to write short, succient statements which don't overload and crash web servers.

I did write that, but it was so long and well thought out that the Internet imploded and you can't find it anywhere,

      So. Much. Snark. LOL.

It can be very tough to prove stuff unless there is a real smoking gun.

I'd maybe counter and threaten going to a lawyer. It will probably cost them way more, but employers are stubborn.
