It's ok. That's not my favorite by far, but it's what was in the fridge, so it worked.

      Good points.

But that's what hearing protection is for. I got nothing for the joints though.. lol

Hearing protection only goes so far.

Hearing protection is worth a ton of money. I'm not even kidding. 15 minutes of listening to jackhammering can cause damage that never heals.

Buying ear plugs for a meager $1-2 will/does prevent that damage.

      Some of that damage.

I've seen that you can do it via a command, which of course could be scheduled, but I'm always Leary of that with FreePBX.

      sudo -u asterisk /var/lib/asterisk/bin/module_admin upgradeall
      sudo -u asterisk /var/lib/asterisk/bin/module_admin reload

That's the module part. Don't forget the OS, too.

Right. The OS part (at least in FreePBX) can be set for automatic updates via the GUI in System Admin.

I know this is an older topic, but we're migrating to O365 Business Essentials tomorrow, which includes access to Microsoft Planner. I'm thinking there are at least a few folks here who will benefit from it but would love to hear how people are using it (if anyone here has been).

Is one method preferred/better than the other? (script to change permissions vs changing file location of file)

To me, it would come down to WTF you are using these custom things for. Without that detail, I have no idea what would be better.

We're querying a file in this location to get some information from the PBX such as current calls, queue information, etc for an internal piece of software. It doesn't have to be in that directory, so I'll go down t he path of just moving the files and referencing them. Hopefully FreePBX wont overwrite the apache conf file when upgraded/reloaded.

Why not push it directly to where you need it?

You mean push the original files in question to the PBX via script?

I thought that they were already on the PBX. Push them to somewhere else via script is what I was thinking.

They (apparently) have custom scripts that pull data from Asterisk for use elsewhere. These scripts would have to reside on the Asterisk box.

Understood. Was thinking that instead of saving the data locally, they could immediately push it elsewhere so that the perms wouldn't be an issue.

@fuznutz04 said in DECT base stations & Additional handsets:

So the YeaLink phones are the better route? The W52P model? Grandstream also makes a few wireless DECT phones as well.

IMO, Grandstream is the bottom of the barrel on quality in the VOIP world. They are super cheap and often the quality suffers because of it. I know tons of hobby VoIP people love them because of the cost.

I love Yealink because of the combination of their price and quality.

There are certainly cheaper phones and there are certainly higher quality phones.

But Yealink hits that sweet spot of solid quality for reasonable cost.

That's good info, thanks. I've been working with Grandstream for a little while now and they just came out with a new firmware that revamped their interface and seemed to improve the UI a lot. However, I have no complaints about Yealink either. I haven't used their DECT phones yet, but their price is very similar compared to the VTech phones. I believe a vendor recommended this VTech phone a few months ago, but I haven't really done any research on it. Glad I asked.

The other piece of the chain here is of course, the VPS provider that I'm using. I'm on the east coast, my VPS is in Milwaulkee, connecting to a Vitelity server, which appears to be in Colorado. I'm evaluating the idea of testing another local VPS provider closer to me. (Vultr for example)

Thought I would circle back on this one and give a review of OrangeComputers.

I purchased an R710 from OrangeComputers a few months ago. They were very willing to work with me on price and upgrade components for a very reasonable price. I believe they even upgraded the controller from a Perc6i to an H710 for little to no cost. The server arrived within about 2-3 days, very well packaged, and all firmware up to date. The condition of the server was great, and it has been running 24/7 ever since I booted it with 4-5 VMs on it.

In summary, after 3 months of usage, I would recommend this company for refurb servers, as long as warranty is not a huge issue for you. Their warranty is 90 days standard, but you can pay a little extra and get a 1 year warranty. If you want a 3 year warranty, then these are not the guys to go with. For home use, or even small business, I'd buy from them again. Their pricing is excellent.

      SharePoint's wiki system works great.

Is this how you handle password storage as well?

For a lot of things, yes. Sharepoint has a bit of security so for many password storage tasks this works great since the wiki contents are secured to just the resources that need them.

So you just lock the security permissions down to specific users on specific pages, correct?

Correct. And our wikis are done by department or team. So if a team needs resources, it would be in their wiki. We don't share very many passwords, so this isn't a major issue. The best course of action is to reduce the need for shared passwords as much as possible.

The last time I stood one of these things up I spent around $1000 on add-ons... But those were one time fees, not monthly.

For a larger office, I would expect that, but for a basic small office, spending more than $100-$200 on pro modules likely is a misunderstanding of the needs.

      Agreed.
