How did this go for you, @scottalanmiller ? I tried updating last evening and the gui never came back. Then after a reboot, the proper ports weren't even open on the web server. I didn't have time to troubleshoot at the time, so I rolled back from a snapshot. Any "gotchas" to be aware of?

That's what I figured. Thanks for the report back, that's great to hear. Also curious if your clients(or you) purchase support plans from Proxmox?

Re: Creating a Windows 2022 Server VM on Proxmox 7

      @JaredBusch

How has this specific project ( 2 nodes with single disk ZFS on top of hardware RAID) been going? Any issues since you put this into production?

I am looking to do the same exact thing and keep reading all about how "ZFS hates hardware RAID", blah blah blah. Real world example, can you share your experience?

      Thanks!

How many switches do you anticipate needing in the colo?

I'm just looking 2 replace 2 at this point.

@travisdh1 Thanks for that info. I've used HP switching before, but that was probably 15 years ago. I know Juniper is fantastic, and so is the price tag. 🙂

If my environment was really big, I might choose Juniper, for sure. For small, both our full CoLo deployments and our "might as well be colo" scenarios, we've found the Unifi system just gives us the visibility that we need.

I always thought of Unifi as "local small office" equipment. I even have Unifi in my local office. I've not even considered it in the past for full CoLo.

For those of you that have workloads in a COLO facility, what are you all using for network switching? Ideally, I'd like to upgrade a network switch I have to a new switch with dual power supplies. (1 power supply goes to PDU 1 in the rack and the other goes to PDU2 in the rack) Any product recommendations for a 24 or 48 port managed switch with dual power supplies?

What products/solutions are you using for single corded equipment for power redundancy? An automatic transfer switch of some sort?

We used to use Ubiquiti EdgeSwitches in CoLo. Now we use their Unifi switches.

That's exactly what I use (Edgemax). But they are aging, and I'm starting to look for replacements.

Proxmox is great so far. 2 servers, setup and available for replication/migration via separate 10G NICs that are direct connected. Then a PBS server where everything is backed up to. So far, so good.

I am changing over 2 Hyper-V servers to ProxMox. I run Proxmox at home, but am going to give this a go at the office. As I understand it, I can setup 2 identical servers, and replicate the VMs back and forth. (not HA, just simply replicate for backup/maintenance windows, etc.)

Assuming this is the case, 2 questions.

      1. What is the best storage format to use in Proxmox? ( I have SSDs on these servers in case it matters...I heard that ZFS is hard on SSDs?)
      2. I have multiple NICs on the servers, specifically, 2 10 G NICs. Can I specify a NIC when replicating VMs between the 2 servers? For example, if I can direct connect the 2 server's 10G NICs with an ethernet cable for replication, that would be the best scenario.

      Thanks!

Found my answer to item 2. Apparently you can do this via a config file.

Been a while since I had looked at Ubiquiti's store, but it looks like they're not bothering to show EdgeRouter 4 as an out-of-stock option anymore.

      https://store.ui.com/us/en?category=wired-edge-max-routing

There is a lot of chatter on the forums regarding the website not displaying items properly. A UI person did confirm this on the forums. If you search for ER-4, it does show up, and it is in stock. A couple days ago, a UI person stated that they are in fact NOT EOLing the Edgemax line. (https://community.ui.com/releases/EdgeMAX-EdgeRouter-v2-0-9-hotfix-7/2693d34c-f878-45d3-90af-32da2b4895a2#comment/04920424-98a9-4d65-bad2-935f63edef12) About half way down the page.

What is everyone putting in for SMB firewalls these days? With the stock issues with the Edgemax line, I know we all have been either looking to move to something else, or waiting it out.

There are many rumors about UI EOLing the Edgemax line, but they may be just rumors of course. Are you all still putting the Edgemax line of firewalls in?

    • Small office replacement network

So I have a very small project that I am going to do "pro bono" for a homeless shelter in my town. Requirements are very basic. They need a new Firewall/router, 12 port PoE switch, and probably 2 WIFI access points. In previous times, my "go to" for an inexpensive but great solution for something like this would have been a Ubiquiti edge router 4, a TP-link or Ubiquiti Edge switch (poe), and a Ubiquiti Access point or 2. I have not been impressed with Ubiquiti lately however. So I'm looking at other options. Has anyone used Aruba InstantOn switches or APs or Engenius? Again, this is a small (prob 12 people) non profit homeless shelter that has a very small budget. I'm doing the work and install for free, but they will be paying for the equipment. Any suggestions from the group on the above?

    • RE: Project tracking

@JasGot Since we use Microsoft 365, they include a very basic (but in my opinion, good for our needs) project management tool called "Planner." It's basic, so if you are looking for something very detailed with Gannt charts, etc, this probably would not work well for you. But for basic project tracking, its good IMO.

By the way, I upgraded to the latest stable, and it's working great so far. Happy about that!

We are still on 1.4, we work around the clock so getting reboot time can be a pain.

Yeah, I did it a few days ago when I saw the thread update. I customized it heavily with company logo, customized agents, etc, and it all "stuck" after the update. So far, so good.

I haven't looked at customized agents. What can you customize?

The agent that comes up when it is running for the user (interactive, not background)...What that actually looks like in regards to color, logo, etc. Also the main page where you send people to: https:url/invite. You can customize that page entirely in regards to colors, logos, images, etc. I did it as a "hey lets see if this works" test, and it did, so I kept it in place.
