Backup solutions for Xenserver

Nice. When the electric fence failed (often), we'd wake up to fresh milk mooing in the yard.
PS - Think we can take this soon by Veem thing to far?

I'm always forgetting that Veeam Endpoint will handle this. At least for the Windows servers.
Which Veeam product is that, exactly?

I kind of answered my own question. The "Endpoint Backup" product they have they say is for desktop and latops, but then they say...
"Veeam Endpoint Backup FREE is Veeam's new backup solution for Windows-based computers (desktops & laptops) running Windows 7 and higher as well as Windows Server 2008 and higher."
Is this the product you mean?

Yes. Linux support is coming soon. So will be pretty broad once that arrives.

Don't they have another free product just for servers? (Or VMs?)
-
Veeam has the 1TB free for anything I believe.
I'm pretty sure they have a SW offering too where you can get some money off. Not sure if they have a special offering for us ML folks.

I think that you are thinking of Unitrends. Veeam Free is always free.

Their normal backup product has a limited use free version called Veeam Free. It can only talk to Hyper-V and ESXi licensed (non-free). It's a totally different type of product and is the platform that people pay big money for. It is agentless.

@scottalanmiller I might be.
I thought it was Veeam free 1TB though.
Not without limitations.
That's definitely Unitrends that's 1 TB and free and no limitations.

Jarrod - As I posted in Spiceworks, I'm sorry to hear that you're having these issues with your UEB transition. I think that our team is working to resolve these issues with you, but want to make sure that everything is being taken care of to your satisfaction. Are you all set?

I just bought Unitrends for our Xenserver environment about 2 months ago. I have well over 95%(over 99% at the moment) backup success rate with 40 or so vm, using a combo of vm backups, agent backups(required it seems for some vm servers with sql dbs) and sql/exchange db backups. I may be able to help you with your problems. There are some things it wont do in Xenserver yet, like instant recovery for example, but it is working well for me so far.

@momurda dude, where have you been!!
-
@scottalanmiller Fixing lots of things. Trying to fix other things, failing. Im really loving xenserver so far for the almost 4 months ive been using it. Just got a raise, so im feeling good about the work ive done here, so ill be around more often now.

I am an Alike user and, although they have their own faults, the software has been doing a decent job backing up my environment....
I'm currently in the process of transitioning from Alike 3.5 to 4.2, which basically requires you to scrap and re-do your backups. Fortunately for me, I have the hardware to run both in parallel. I'm still working through the initial backups with 4.2, which are running into some snags (not unexpected), but their support has been responsive and helpful. I am hopeful things will iron out in sometime this week.
How was your transition from 3.5 to 4.2?
As of today, what can you say about working with software & the company itself?

I won't say it was perfect, but so far things have been relatively well. We have three large MS-SQL VMs that I've had trouble backing up (two of them backed up without much fuss under 3.5, one is new since our migration to 4.x), but it could be environmental. I've been pretty stubborn and have stuck to Enhanced Backups. Their support engineer wants me to try Q-Hybrid backups with these VMs...I just haven't had the time to juggle around my backup jobs (I have them structured in a way that makes it difficult to deviate from Enhance Backups). I'm backing up the databases themselves, so I'm not too worried about it.
I would say I have a 95% backup success rate. There are hiccups every now and then, but it's likely those are environmental. I have not had any issues restoring data when I've needed to, which is most important.
