DELL Laptop Motherboard

This might be worth looking at.

Seems maybe the DC port is not part of the motherboard. -

Soldering irons and I do not get along.
It's actually a strange problem. Once I get it to stay on, I can't wiggle it or anything. I wonder if it is just starting to go.
This thing is 4+ years old at this point anyway. Might be time for a whole upgrade.
I'd take care of it for ya if I was near by. @travisdh1 is 100% correct I bet.

I can replace the motherboard. I just figured there was a site I didn't know about that everyone was buying from, that I would have found out about AFTER I already bought a part at a worse place.
I've learned here...ask before buying.

I learned that too, but don't always remember.

One trick I've used previously is finding one on ebay/craigslist that's broken in another way. Can be cheaper than buying a part and you get extra spare parts.

@BRRABill That could easily be fixed by soldering the connector back on the motherboard. At least if the experience of the local repair shop is anything to go by. If not, ebay.
Too bad it's not a Toshiba. Nice plug n play adapters. This was my fix:

Well, I noticed tonight that even though the "POWER" LED comes on for 2 seconds and then goes off, the laptop is working as expected.
So, I guess that is all that matters.

What is your trusted source if you wanted to replace a DELL laptop motherboard?
Just buy a new laptop

@johnhooks That's unheard of, a power connector that won't break!

Well the original plastic one broke. And it was part of the brace on the body of the laptop, not the adapter itself. So I just dremeled the hole bigger and soldered a DC connector from Radio Shack on. It's not coming off unless you run it over.
