He has to be able to get it in Qatar, though.
I noticed on top of everything else you guys do, you're also wizards at currency conversion.

Probably best on its own thread then
I see your point, but then again this is a generic thread regarding the device. It's not a discussion of where it can be purchased in Qatar.

Have to be when you live in the third world like we do. I have to work in Cordoba day in and day out.

Device has drives inclusive, it's not a drive replacement device. The drives are part of the device. It's how WD does it.

As a clueless American I don't know what any of these words mean.
I"m like Brick in Anchorman.

Can't use those in RAID 5 with any level of safety, the WE EX devices are designed with the assumption of (but apparently no longer the lock in) of RAID 5.
Is that where the WD RE drives would be a better choice?

Not sure that I follow you here. From what I can tell, they offer this device without drives.

If they do, that's new. Last we looked they were very "only with drives, only RE and only RAID 5." We talked to WD management about this directly, in fact.

Last I knew, there was no choice. It was an RE device.

Dear @Scottalanmiller, what do you prefer and recommend : RAID 5 or RAID 10 ??
Like I said, RAID 10 is always best unless it doesn't meet your needs. Preference should not be a factor, it would always be what is needed for the situation. RAID 10 is faster and safer than RAID 5, but your capacity will be 6TB instead of 9TB. So unless the extra 3TB are useful, RAID 5 would have no benefit.
Great. Raid 10 is the way to go
Thanks -
I see that the WDBWWD0000NBK is now available with "BYOD" bring your own drives.

The drives are included in the box

Dual Ethernet and power supply ports; 512 MB memory and 2.0 GHz processor deliver reliable, blazing-fast performance for your home or small office.
Wow, a whole 512MB of RAM, huh?

That's also what the Synology DS214 I was looking at has.
-
@scottalanmiller before you recommend me to consider ReadyNAS and Synology, is WD good also ??

WD is okay. ReadyNAS and Synology are the best in the category. Nothing wrong with the WD, but it's a lower end device generally. But your needs are extremely basic. So nothing wrong with it.

Only two drives, so no parity overhead, and they sure don't brag about 512 MB

Ok, thank you very much

Drobo, for example, would be just fine here too.

I mean how much could it cost to go to 1GB for them?
