Dual Ethernet and power supply ports; 512 MB memory and 2.0 GHz processor deliver reliable, blazing-fast performance for your home or small office.

Wow, a whole 512MB of RAM, huh?

That's also what the Synology DS214 I was looking at has.

WD is okay. ReadyNAS and Synology are the best in the category. Nothing wrong with the WD, but it's a lower end device generally. But your needs are extremely basic. So nothing wrong with it.

Only two drives, so no parity overhead, and they sure don't brag about 512 MB 😉

Drobo, for example, would be just fine here too.

I mean how much could it cost to go to 1GB for them?

@BRRABill Can't be more than $2!! Right? Memory at that size is so freaking cheap!! Seems like 2GB would be a more logical minimum size.

$2 multiplied by 500,000 units - not going to happen lol

You can easily charge $3 for that kind of upgrade, though!!

Then how do you upgrade them to the WD My Cloud EX5? 😉
