I just remembered that the band bought a new audio interface, so I'll be recabling the entire rehearsal space on Saturday. But I find that enjoyable, so yay recording gear!
This weekend will be running new conduit and preparing all the electrical for the kitchen.
Depending on how far that gets, I will get flooring installed.
I would much rather run cables than do flooring, because I've done flooring. Best of luck, hope you get it knocked out.
I really like the engineered flooring they are coming out with. Floating floors and click/lock flooring are stupid easy to install. For a kitchen though I would do the ceramic tile that looks like wood. It's gorgeous but takes a lot of skill to get it installed right.
In a few years we are getting a house built. That will be a can of worms I'm sure.
Pro tip: DON'T get tile counter tops anywhere, kitchen or bathroom. Those are the current bane of my homeowning existence.
Concrete counter or stone counter tops all the way!

BBQing fresh beef, 4-wheelers, swimming, mudding, drinking.... going to be a good memorial day with one of my oldest friends

I can sleep at night knowing that I didn't choose to have tile counters installed, I bought the house like that. But I thought I'd be able to tolerate it longer than 5 minutes...

Food gets in the grout lines and you have to obsessively clean them until they are pristine again? Also don't do white counter tops.... just don't not worth the hassle.

I really really like polished concrete. I'd do the floors (through out the house!), counter tops, you name it.
Oh no, the floor is covered in blood! Poor some bleach on it, swish it around and mop it off. Sorted.

They are like a splotchy beige, but yes, you have to clean the grout obsessively. I hope my kitchen will be renovated by maybe next spring, shouldn't be a huge undertaking since all the appliances are new, just the floor and counters suck.

Agreed, polished concrete is really nice if you get someone who does it well. It isn't the most comfortable to stand on for long periods of time. They have really nice texture/color finishes that polish smooth but look like they have grit in them.

I'd do the whole place as polished concrete but I'd paint the floor of the Kitchen white with abrasive grit in the paint so you could spill water everywhere and not invent the worlds worst slip and slide.

The one thing my wife and I will never put in one of our houses... carpeting. I'd much rather have plyboard flooring, we did for 4 or so years when I was growing up, then carpeting.
-
@coliver F[moderated after being flag by several] carpet.

I'm the weirdo that like carpeting (specifically in the bedroom) I know it collects all kinds of dust and skin and whatever... but I really like walking around barefoot and hard flooring just doesn't feel as nice.

I'm in the same boat. I like sitting on the floor too (LEGO is still one of my choice possessions), and it isn't very comfortable on a hard surface for an extended period of time. I like hard surfaces in entries, dining room, kitchen, and bathrooms, but no where else.

I wear shoes unless sleeping (orthopedic issues)
In my world carpet is a giant dirty rag you walk on and are somehow expected to keep clean.

This is so much me. Our current Tv room and bathrooms are hardwood (appears to be real wood and not fake wood). Kitchen is tile. Our "Red Room" is named for the carpet that it contains is the family room or whatever you want to call it.

Only my master bedroom has carpet, and it is trashed, so I need to replace it with something soon.

I have to say that looks fantastic

Another nice thing about concrete is you can heat it super easily.
You get a water boiler, and plumb the water heater through it, and you're good to go.
You can also cool it with the same setup.

Radiant floor heating... Ridiculously efficient compared to baseboard.

Grew up in a concrete slab ranch house with that. There is nothing like putting bare feet down on a warmed floor in the winter.
