Until I decided to blend into my west coast surroundings with a beard I also enjoyed a safety razor & collected old ones. Only way to shave.

On another forum I have been a member of there is a thread on how to get out of debt with a safety razor. For months I would see this and question it, but never read it.
Finally I did one day and realized that they meant shaving. I have been using a 1960-70 era Gillette Safety Razor for a while now.. and like it over the newer 20 blade razors. (okay, there isn't a 20 blade... but you get the point).
Someone made a comment that "with my safety, I have to 'shave twice or three' times. ... and someone replied, that's why I use the new 5 blade..
Only thing is, that 5 blade 'shaves' you 5 times...so what is the difference. And with my beard, I only trim up a bit on the lower neck.... so a single blade can last me two months since I only hit it about once in two weeks.....
I work from home,... so not like I need to impress anyone.

I was a member of Dollar Shave Club for a while. They weren't bad.

I had a giant stockpile. They send you 4 new blades every month. You can go every other month also, but I never changed it. I have the safety razor for my face, but I use those for my head (I don't trust myself with a safety razor on the back of my head). i was so used to getting every possible bit out of the razors possible, I definitely did not use 4 a month, so I have a ton sitting around. I'll probably start back up once I run out.

I guess I'm the odd man out.. I use an electric razor. I've been lucky and no ingrown hairs.

I used to use one, but I started shaving in the shower.

@Dashrender I use my 'lectric when I am in a hurry and for touchups. I use a regular razor for when it gets too long for my electric one.

I used to use an electric razor. I even bought a fairly expensive one to see if that would help. Both ended up giving me crazy razor burn and the shave was no where near as close as I like.

I have a straight razor, and I love it. I got lazy and started shaving in the shower a couple of years ago, so it just sits now, but I've never had a better shave than the straight. It's just too much like a chore to do.
-
Can't use a straight razor in the shower?
-
@scottalanmiller I think you just gave me a new nightmare - I am hesitant to use a straight razor while both feet are dry and planted squarely on the bathroom floor.

Reminds me a bit of Psycho.

@coliver thanks for that imagery to add to my nightmares

I'm always amazed that my grandparent's generation didn't have more accidental deaths by straight razor... both of my grandfathers used one for most their lives... wasn't until recently that they started to use a safety or butterfly razor.
