I second Syracuse. I have family in Utica and flying into Syracuse is easy and inexpensive.
Same here, but if we were going to do that, I'd vote for Utica. Easy town to get around, lower cost. Hotel Utica is a great spot and might have facilities. Flights to Syracuse or Albany work. Utica College does conference stuff. Amtrak has great service to there.
That would be so easy for me. I would just have to buy a flight since I could stay with my family

Us too. Or at least have local babysitters!

This is an easy hour drive for me... I wouldn't (necessarily) have to get a hotel room.
-
It's not a "bad" drive for @Minion-Queen either. Not great, but not bad. And easily train-able for any vendors coming from Manhattan.
-
I know it is extremely early in the process, does anyone have a proposed date(s) for said event?

That would be helpful. Please be June....

late May, June, early July are most doable for us. Somebody should check out dates of major religious holidays too, so we don't conflict.
-
@scottalanmiller Utica state prison isn't desirable.
-
I will be looking at pricing and then comparing holidays. We do not want to hit any major religious ones. Certain times of year are more expensive than others. Right now it is all about scoping out venues. Which we are doing over the next 3 weeks. Then I will have a better idea on timing.

Utica has a prison? Where, I've never seen it. If you search on it, nothing comes up. Is it a secret prison?
-
We also have to talk to the Vendors and make sure no other tradeshows compete that they are already committed to.
-
Utica has a zoo and the canal, but no prison that I know of.

Ah, Midstate in Marcy. That's a pretty small prison and not in Utica (but nearby.) What an odd thing to think of. I'm in Utica all the time and there is no association of the little correctional facility with the town. It's not like Attica or anything, which is actually really near many of the locations that we are looking at.
-
I'm psyched that it will be in driving range for me. Long drive, yes... but totally doable! Looking forward to this.
-
Can I Skype in?
-
We very well might be able to figure out how to do a video stream of at least some part of it!

Would be nice, adds a lot more "crew" requirements BUT it is very critical to have sessions recorded so maybe that all needs to be there anyway.
-
Yeah exactly what I was thinking we will be recording anyway so might as well....
-
Makes sense. Streaming does take quite a bit more work, it's a little like running a TV station rather than just doing filming. Although it does a lot to generate interest too, I would imagine.
