I meant the dislike button, not whatever Finger Time is.

What, so someone's mom has died and I'm too lazy or too busy to write 'I'm sorry to hear that' so I need a button I can press instead?

I was wondering why these were in here, lol.

I don't think it's about laziness, I think sometimes comments themselves, no matter how innocuous, detract from the message. So the idea of the ability to show your understanding/support without drawing attention away from the OP is one I appreciate.

What I'm wondering is, how are they going to curate this? If they simply turn it on for every post they are daft to think that there won't be occasional (and perhaps more than occasional) dislike wars. Frankly I look forward to this feature and the madness that will insue.

There used to be a dislike button didn't there, but they took it off? Or did I dream that?

I'm bright enough to realise that if someone likes a sad post I've made then they're actually liking in sympathy rather than because they hate me. At least I assume that to be the case.

So am I, but I still consider it weird to be 'liking' something that is sad.

I don't recall specifically if there was a dislike button, but there was definitely some sort of negative or down vote button. I'm not sure if I prefer a single count that includes all +1's and -1's to give a total score, or would rather see a number of like separated from a number of dislikes.

If you're really trying to ensure you're getting a real feel for something, you must show both separately. Otherwise if you only set the net gain/loss - you don't know how many people voted one way or the other, only that at least x more voted in the way you see noted, which diminishes the value.

It'll become something of a faux pas when people accidentally click like instead of dislike when their friend's cat dies.

That'll be a challenge that I hadn't thought about.... right now when someone says "I don't feel well today", you click "like" because it doesn't really mean "like" but means "I empathize" or something. Or just "I saw this and I care." But if you can dislike, what does that mean that you should do in cases like that?

I wonder if you will be able to like and dislike at the same time.

It might be a like or a dislike but you can't find out without opening the post and exposing yourself to it.
