Creating documentation: eBook

between the office and home, I have some much needed documentation that needs to be done.
Procedures, policies and such forth. My goal is to not 'publish' this but put it in a media that has that appearance. I'm not a tech writer.. but I'd like it to be as well and professionally but together as possible.
As I have a kindle, and iPad - I was considering using a eBook format.
Would there be a better way? This is something that would be passed to my supervisor also..

Just use PDF. Works everywhere including on the Kindle and in iBooks for the iPad.

Yeah I'd write it in Word, then save it as a PDF.

I've converted many Word or Excel documents to PDF in the past. Just wondered if using the eBook format would work better.
I know that you can insert navigational links in a PDF - just haven't done so previously..

PDF is considered to be an eBook format along with Mobi and ePub.

I would think ebook types (other than PDF) would be more limiting as you'd have to ensure you have a reader on whatever device you want to view them on. PDFs can be read on nearly anything.

Exactly. When I get digital books when I buy then, PDF is still the main format. I use PDF for everything except Kindle and then use Mobi. Mobi is a pain before things like the Kindle reader on Windows won't allow you to read Mobi docs.

I'm not that hip.The Kindle app on phones and tablets support Word docs. The Kindle device doesn't. But I'm not sure how good IT documentation is on a traditional Kindle anyway as it's likely to be full of screen prints and diagrams and they're not great on it.

I think that PDF is the most universal. If you only want to make a single format that would be the one.

That is an easy option.. and in so many cases it can be over complicated...
I've not done PDF navigation before.. so I'll start in MS Word and go from there...

Something else that I have noticed is, at least from what I have seen, PDFs tend to be tiny compared to most other ebook formats.
