So I renamed a server & joined it to Active Directory using the name of a server already in AD.

This had the effect of removing/hiding the original server, which has just sat their doing its thing while this went on.

Now however I can't log into it with a domain account (I can't remember any local login accounts).

I re-created the original server account in AD via ADUC and can see that the servers object USN lists an original and a current USN, so I'm assuming AD remembers the object and has updated it.

I can't log into the server to reboot it, so have waited longer than an hour and still cannot log into it with a domain account (think you have to wait 51 minutes for AD updates / resyncs).

This server is remote, up high, heavy and headless, so I'd really like to fix this remotely.

      Thanks for any help.

@scottalanmiller Ah yes. Just got onto the console with Mesh Central.

Still don't have an account to log in with though.

In Mesh Central, connect to your server via Terminal and change your local administrator password.

We use the terminal to make local admin accounts all the time. It's the best.

net user /add account password or net user /add account *

And better not forget a local admin

                      net localgroup administrators /add account

Terminal for the win! I would do this same thing on ScreenConnect when NTG was still using it. Pretty simple and quick. Resolved so many issues.

I was fully prepared to see the need to boot this server to something like Hirem's ultimate boot disk and then change the local admin password.

Nice end around, lucky you had something like MC already installed.
