Home schooling remote help (VNC/RDP/Whatever)

Does anyone have a suggestion for "best" secure first, interactive bells and whistles second. Would be nice to use MIC to talk and share screen and control client mouse and keyboard. Thank you for any help you can offer.

Others might disagree - but I consider Teams a secure platform.

Absolutely Agree. This is for my home. Without researching (shame on me) I assumed there would be an expense. Which is not out of the question. At work we use GoToassist which works perfectly for what I do with it. So if all else fails it will probably end up being teams.

I think you could use ZeroTier for this and use rdp or whatever technology you prefer.

VNC/RDP/ZT, etc all expect something to exist beforehand.
What is the situation in which you will be using this?
The teacher remote sharing their screen with a student? The student's screen with a teacher? something else?

While I don't think Teams is available yet for free, You could Skype. I'm pretty sure it has desktop sharing as part of it as well. Both Teams and Skype can use the Free Microsoft Account.
Now that I think about it - Teams may never be part of the free account, it might only be for Microsoft 365 Home subscribers (or whatever they are calling it these days).

It is actually to be able to help my two son's with their homework. Checking their work, helping them with Math if they are having issues, basically parenting from anywhere. With the current atmosphere of things, school is 100% on line. So my thought process is kind of like the way I support people at work. Got it - well, if you have access to Teams via a work account, you could definitely use that - just send them a meeting invite, they join, they share control of their computer - done.
Same goes for Skype (though Skype, unlike Teams, might require them to have a Skype account) Teams I know for a fact does not require outsides to have an account, you can invite anyone to a teams meeting.

Jitsi works really well and is free.

If Windows 10 on both ends, I can attest to the fact that the built-in Quick Assist works amazingly well, together with your voice client of choice (cell phone, Slack, FaceBook, hangouts meet, etc...)

Where TeamViewer, and a few others have failed, Quick Assist was the one that worked, in the end, in every single case. I am supposed to try ConnectWise Control, and if that gives problems on the device, try TeamViewer QuickSupport. And when both of those are either not working as they should or too hard for the user to figure out or for whatever reason, I drop to the built-in Quick Assist, which really just works. No MS fanboyism, just straight up facts. It works well where all others fail or cause problems.
So you're just going to have to get over yourself in the fact that, sometimes, something other than latest shiny thing you latched on to works well. And sometimes, it might be made by Microsoft :man_shrugging:
I'm willing to bet you've never even tried using it, let alone heard of it or given it any thought. So I find it very ignorant for you to keep this petty stuff up... trolling or not.

Nice try. Of course I have used it. No, it is not real good. Yes, it worked, but not as smoothly as real tools.
