P2V Windows 2000 on KVM
-
Has anyone tried doing a P2V of a Windows 2000 physical server over to a KVM host? Not a critical need, we have a customer where it would be handy to "archive" an old server "just in case." But I have a feeling that this might be a lot of work for something that might not work. I've not put W2K on KVM at all, let alone a P2V. Thoughts?

I've P2V W2K before, but never installed it onto KVM, XS at the time and it worked without issue.
I used Starwind's conversion tool.

So this is ridiculous, but we just found out that it is actually 2003 R2, not 2000. So I assume that this will be way better.

If it's for just in case, it might be better to back up the hard disk and archive it. After the replacement is up and stable, then back that up as a go-to instead of the W2K stuff.

2003 R2 def works, I've had to do it twice.
I installed the Spice guest tools before doing the conversion. -
RAID card failed, point is moot.

Nope, but the data was super old and they had already discussed it as being "only worth it if we could fire it up and pull it off".

I had a ton of issues getting mine to work - I had to run chkdsk like 15 times before it finally booted... I don't recall what migration tool I used.
