Getting straight to work

In my continuing saga, my boss leaves files open when she leaves for the day - reason - because it allows her to get right to work the following morning.
This makes sense, at least to me.
If she closed everything at night, in order to pickup right where she left off the night before, she'd have to make a list of all things she was doing before she left. That seems kinda crazy to me.
Heck I think MS agrees with me because they added Timeline to 1803 - remembers the things you have open at a given point in time.
Of course, it has a huge draw back, it only works with things that support it - pretty sure Chrome doesn't support it (hopefully, that's short lived).The purpose of this post is to see what those who've been around other CEO, CFO, etc types do for the end of day/beginning of day setups to get back to work fast?

Chrome can continue where you left off, it's been a built in function for years now.

As for other services that need to be open immediately, you could always go to Apple, their annoying OS as this functionality at restart to "continue" everything it seems at a reboot or shutdown.

Windows 10 does this now to.
Weirded me out the first time it happened to me. It's awkward the way it works too.
You have Outlook/Word/Excel/Chrome open when you click shutdown/reboot.
Upon logging into, you're given the normal desktop. But once you click on the first app, the system jumps into action restoring all the apps you had open before the shutdown/reboot.

Unfortunately, apparently something she does frequently is change spreadsheets to tweak results, though has no intention of saving those changes... well the auto save kicked in, saved the changes because pc reboot/server reboot, etc - now she doesn't know the state of the truly saved file versus the auto saved file, etc.. headache.
Now I know some of you are just going to say - well stop that. To which I reply - she's the bloody boss, and no matter what Scott says, she still gets to make the rules.

Yes, and she chose products that don't allow her to work that way. So yes, she makes the rules and the rules she makes override the statements of desire that she makes.

Exactly. Tell her what is possible, do what you are told, don't care beyond that. She can't have auto save and don't auto save too. The computer isn't magic, and stating that it has to be isn't a "rule".

The only way to ruin that is to erase it, throw it out, or shred it. . . . But I have a feeling her communication response time delay will skyrocket. . .

The thing about paper is that it is predictable. People understand it intuitively. They don't get confused when it doesn't back itself up, or doesn't revert to an earlier revision or whatever.

I suppose she never updates her computer or reboots either, then. Pretty bad practice.
If she can't remember what she was working on, it must not be important.
A simple task list can help with that.
I used to use a good ol'fashioned Memogenda, but have since started using Outlook tasks to track everything.

Oh, she told us that she tried using a tasks in Outlook, and other tasking solutions - but they were just to long - the list was always hundreds or more lines long... that was untennable to her.
She prints and makes piles of paper. Apparently piles of papers with tasks to do is less mentally tasking than seeing a list in tasks that 300 lines long. Even though the piles of paper total up to that same list of 300 lines.
