Because getting funding for IT or Development to do something for small internal projects was not ever approved.

In other words, its broke and we don't know how to fix it. Its best if you just restore from backups.

Yep, restored to a new instance within 45 min. All good now. I got a follow up email from them saying, the data is most likely gone.
