@JaredBusch So rather than obfuscating the number you left it there for them to call..
Good decision on that one..
Hey man, did you get that email from IT with the toll free 1-844 support number?
I could actually see this happening.
I kinda hope someone does it, just a tiny bit...
I'd be so pumped for @JaredBusch 's post, I can't even.

- I explicitly stated prior to the image that the only valid number to call is an internal extension (5120).
- That was clearly stated as an example of fraud.
You have some issues man if you are trying to twist this in to some mistake.
I won't speak for him but I thought it was in jest

I hope they do too. Because I get to bill them for nuking the machine from orbit.

@JaredBusch I'm not twisting it into a mistake.
I'm just pointing out that even providing the information to your users (being users) is likely a poor decision choice.
Obfuscating the information of the number along would have been more then enough to stop them from making a poor choice.

Oh jeez, if someone actually was that stupid I'd send @JaredBusch a 6 pack and my trusty customer service baseball bat

So @JaredBusch did you call the number just to mess with the scammers?

Because gouging my clients is a good way to retain their business.

I don't have time for that. I was really hoping that the reddit guy @nic posted about got his follow up call but i haven't seen anything new on that.

@JaredBusch Well it does seem that way, when you provide the information needed to cause harm. Rather than taking a few seconds to obscure the information...

So circling back around to what I said before. You have some issues man. You got all internet mad at me in another thread and now you are trying to get back at me or something. Have fun with that.
-
I am in no way trying to get back at you.
I'm simply asking why, if you put all of the effort in an email to your clients would you not take the minimal extra effort to blank out a scammers phone number.
Its a simple question, if you messed up, just admit it.
No one here will think less of you, it was just a question.
But your recent response of "I hope they do too. Because I get to bill them for nuking the machine from orbit." does make it seem intentional...

@DustinB3403 @JaredBusch Enough arguing boys.

It's what we do, you know you'd be upset if we all stopped pulling each other's chain.

@travisdh1 I like this forum as it has a no bullshit semi-adversarial feel. Reminds me of the scientific approach - put up or shut up & may the best evidence win.
That little bit of edgy-ness keeps me sharp.

Honestly, that's why I stuck around and spend much more time here than elsewhere now. IE The Spiceworks Community forums isn't getting me a good slap upside the head when I do something stupid.

It's an odd mix of being too PC and everyone just "playing nice" combined with personal attacks. It's like 90% of the time its super cushy and then suddenly it erupts into butt hurt.

I just said "erupts into butt"

It's a bit more aggressive here, I think, but in a more professional way. Like a continuous technical roundtable. Everyone is on the same page. Spice Comm has a lot of people that are pretty surprised when someone proposes a different idea or points out a problem.
