It looks like diversity is there number one selling point. It's the first thing that flashes up on their website.
I followed learn more and see you have option to filter applicants based on race and gender.
Huge redflag to me, and that empowers employers to be racist and sexist.
That also means it's completely illegal to use in the US. As an employer, if I know that I can get that information, I'm not allowed to have used it.

From their diversity hiring page: "Reduce Unconcious Bias"
Both a spelling error and a ridiculous claim.

Well, I think the claim is that they allow you to convert it to fully conscious, intentional bias.

"With SeekOut's Blind Hiring Mode, focus your sourcing on experience and skills by hiding information that could reveal a candidate’s gender, race or ethnicity so your recruiters and hiring managers can minimize unintended bias."
Underneath that header is a more reasonable goal. I hope they do understand the difference between unconscious and unintended.

It basically allows you to filter out white males. Not only that, but that is their main selling point. Talk about direct and blatant discrimination!
-
All that just tells me-
Nope- not happening.
-
That is directly and openly hiring based on race and gender. I thought that was illegal?

It is, if you find out a company is using this tool, your lawyers will have a field day.

Is positive discrimination also illegal in the US then? What about the Rooney rule? I'm not sure what the rules are in Europe, but there are examples of legal positive discrimination, such as female only candidates in elections, and I believe in Denmark you have to employ a certain percentage of female executives.

Discrimination is illegal, plain and simple. The idea of "positive" discrimination is disputed. Discrimination based on race, gender, sex, etc. is considered immoral and reprehensible, calling that "positive" is considered offensive as it's never positive to discriminate against anyone on those basis.

Most countries allow discrimination. In LATAM you can pretty much dictate any factor you want... age, sex, race... and it doesn't matter whether some group calls it "positive" or "negative", it's just allowed. In the US, discrimination is always illegal, even when required. Yes, there are conflicting laws that result in cases where you can't hire anyone (or you can hire everyone.)
But to Americans any country that allows any type of discrimination is being beyond unethical. It's considered an unthinkable line to cross and anyone that participates in doing so, in any direction, is considered totally disgusting. It's among the most vile things to the American ethical framework. Mostly because Americans were so guilty of it for so long, that over time, we become so disgusted with ourselves that the result was actually quite good - identifying that discrimination, using factors of someone's birth that they can't choose, as a hiring factor instead of their ability to do the job best is not good for the public, and not good for business. Everyone loses.
Positive discrimination is simply codifying that certain groups are believed to be, by society and the government, unable to compete and are "inferior". If they weren't then they'd get the job by simply being better qualified.

Roughly the same in the US, except you can never do so intentionally. You have to hire them organically. If you can't, you are stuck. But the laws aren't that strict, which is good, since there aren't that many women in most fields so you often can't get a candidate.
