Printer keeps reinstalling?
-
Got a site that's using a screen split/ switch to 2 different Windows 7 PC's
They have a printer installed, and use the same Monitor and keyboard for the 2 PC's.
We call them KVM at my office, but I have no idea the actual name.Regardless, Everytime the site switches between the 2 computers, the Printer does a reinstall, leaving us with multiple copies of the printer, and they just try to start printing.
They really want to use this printer, which is a USB and KVM Switch- and wont budge on getting dedicated printers. Is there anyway we can set it to not install everytime they switch between screens to print their different reports?

Sounds like the printer is in the KVM. It should not be.

This.
KVM is the proper term (Keyboard Video Mouse).
Printer should not be plugged into KVM. You need to get it plugged into a computer usb port and create a printer share for the other computer to use.

Wow Doc, fire up the flux capacitor. Windows 7 and KVMs. I don't envy what you're working on.

That would make much more sense as to why it has been an on going issue with the site.
Now the issue being that I dont have access to the other PC (keno controller)
So my next step will be talking to their Keno Rep .Thanks for the help.

So, according to my boss - there are 2 different sharing devices; one is a KVM ' the Other is an IO- Printer Sharing device. The way it's supposed to work ; You switch your desktop via KVM, and print a report this IO Printer sharing thing is supposed to follow Based on who's printing.

Boy, I haven't seen one of those shared devices things in ages, and not sure I ever used one personally. Talk about old school.
Can we assume these two computers are on different networks? If they are on the same network, just put the damned printer on the network, share it from ONE of the PCs, and map to it from the other. -

I think they're on separate networks, but right next to each other..
It's freaking weird man. -
Since you are connected to the printer via USB. Disable plug and play. And then delete all those extra printers.
