McDonald's in Austria offers hotline to embassy

US citizens who need help in Austria can now head to their nearest branch of McDonald's, because of an agreement signed by the fast-food giant.

The embassy says any American "in distress" or whose passport has been lost or stolen can get assistance from one Austria's 194 McDonald's joints.

      really - joints? lol

I still here the term used that way around St Louis
Also BBC article. No idea their usage of it.

Ohio school closes after radioactive chemicals detected

A US middle school has closed for the remainder of the school year after authorities found it was contaminated with radioactive chemicals.

Officials say a nearby air monitor detected enriched uranium and neptunium-237 at Zahn's Corner Middle School in Piketon, southern Ohio.

Somebody's been teaching the kids to make nuclear bombs, maybe?

Any space pirates would be immune to any defense we could muster up... there's really no point until we are technologically able to visit other life-bearing planets too.

Not sure where that comes from?

The better question is - are they going to replace the batteries when they get old and near useless? I'm guessing tons of people run their cars into the ground, so replacing batteries at $2000+ once every 8 or so years doesn't seem like something they will want to do.

Well, the gas kinda goes along with @Obsolesce power question... the battery would be more like the engine (not an exact comparison). I suppose a better one would be breaks. Breaks are needed typically every 4-8 years, and cost around $400 (if you don't do them yourself)... that's a long way from $2000+ for batteries.
