What about the backup of the nextcloud instance?

That backup of the backup would be a completely different question.

      What makes NextCloud a backup?

@wrcombs If you move the primary storage to the nextcloud instance, this is not backup anymore. How do you effectively backup the nextcloud instance? I use a script I made with borg that stops the service, dump the db etc.

Isn't the whole Idea behind Nextcloud is to be used as a back up of the primary storage for devices?

Hardly. That's the same as saying "isn't a mapped drive a backup"? No, it's just a form of storage. Nothing is a backup, if it is the original.

Fair enough, I confused the 2 ( Storage and Back up)

Would you share your Script in a write up on backing up Instances of NextCloud for those who would like to learn more?

Worth noting that you don't need that much to protect the data. Like if you had photos, you don't need the DB to recovery them. The DB contains the metadata, not the files themselves. If you want to recreate your NextCloud instance, you need the DB. If you only want the pictures protected, you don't.

This is true, but I use nextcloud to share many things with my family etc, so it’s very practical to have the possibility to restore the db also.

Whit a script like that and the application inside the snap, you can re-create your instance just restarting the whole snap after the unpacking, no further actions needed.

Us too, but for only pictures, you could get away with it.

Is there a way to run your own back up server ( virtual ? ) for mobile phones? I am almost out of space on my android, and I know a few people who may need to back up IOS apple products..
Just a thought, any suggestions? I don't want to lose all of the pictures of my son, but i want them to be easily accessible.

Edit I should add- outside of plugging into a computer- Basically looking for a cloud based mobile back up for pictures.
or if anyone knows a way of creating one.

                        again, just a thought.
                        Thanks in advance.

I have OneDrive on my Samsung Galaxy S8+, and have had it on my Windows phone prior. It's nice, because it automatically uploads all your pics, videos, documents, etc to your OneDrive account when you are on Wifi (or off if you tell it to).

It works the same for iPhone too: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/microsoft-onedrive/id477537958?mt=8

Firefox synchronizes / backs up all my browser stuff.

Google synchronizes / backs up all my apps, etc.

I never have to back up anything on my phone, it's all covered. And I can sync my OneDrive stuff on anything else, or access it via Web app.

I have Amazon Prime so I get unlimited photo storage through that (including raw image files).
