By getting the SIM card, being assigned the number, or being in a place like where I worked that all calls and texts going through a third party that reads them first.
This is an irrelevant issue. Anyone working in such a place that needs to make this type of verification knows that it cannot be done while at work.
This is also an exception that affects such an insignificant amount of people that it basically does not exist.

What's the difference? I haven't looked at telegram... actually I think i looked briefly a few months ago and decided that Viber did more and that it wasn't worth switching. Then now recently I looked at Signal and it seems like the same as Viber, but secure.

It's $3 one time per platform (android or iDevices) Not that big of deal in my opinion... but it does make me ask - how is Signal funded?

OMG run for the hills. Encryption is off by default.
FFS. If I am trying to find a super secret chat app, I don't care about defaults. And if stupid users are stupid, they deserve to have their shit intercepted.
Now that second bit is the issue if I care about a secure chat app.

I use Telegram because it is convenient and multi-platform. I do not use it for security.
I do also like that, to my knowledge, I can hand out the user name I setup in Telegram (@sorvani fyi)and people will not obtain my cell#.
