I assume you are encrypting passwords with a passphrase?

Of course. The sync doesn't work until I log in AND type in my passphrase.

But I'm assuming you never have to type in that password again, so as long as the phone is unlocked, you have access to that information. So handing your phone over to someone to check something out is potentially dangerous.

Sure, in the same way you let someone else into your unlocked server as root to "check something out". Or you can log out of your Chome profile or open up a guest tab... I don't know what you're getting at. If you have a password manager that's unlocked and hand over your device, same thing.

I'm not sure about Bitwarden or Dashlane, but LastPass on iOS locks the instant you navigate away from it. So there's never any real risk there.

What exactly are you worried about? Is your phone not encrypted and does it not lock? Do you often hand it off to others while it's unlocked and exposed? Are you going to be away from it while others have it? I mean come on...

You really have to make an effort here to hurt yourself.

For me personally, I dislike Chrome - so being tied to a browser is not desirable. So it's not a solution for me, but if you're comfortable, more power to ya.

Use Chromium instead... not sure if there's a mobile version, though.

But if you want to dish out $60 per year so you don't have to use a web browser or remember passwords, then 2x the power to you!

lol, it's been $12/year for LP, until recently, now it's $24... and if I don't need/want some advanced features I could drop back to the free version.

As for your other browser option, I'm still stuck to a single specific browser.

I'm not against password managers. If it's something you need and it works, great, so long as it's a good and trustworthy company. Doing it in a browser is working out perfectly for me, so I personally have no reason to pay for a password manager program. I trust my passwords in Google's cloud, so I'll stick with that.

Ive been using 1password for almost 5 years and recently moved to their cloud based subscription from standalone which is $2.99 per month billed anually and covers all apps pc/mac/mobile for 1 user. They also have a plan for family at $4.99 for 5 users and $1 for additional user

I'm, so far, a big fan of BitWarden.

I switched to that from LastPass.

Yeah I think I am leaving Dashlane as well.

Dashlane is no longer insanely more expensive than LastPass, but I will simply never use them after the shitty annoying sales tactics. At least until they are a significantly better and cheaper option. Which at this point they are not.

              Dashlane: $0 / $3.33 / $4 (Business)

              LastPass: $0 / $2 / $4 (Family)

LastPass has something they call "Teams" that would cost me $2.42 per user per month with 6 users.

sorry to hear that. i will admit i actually don't pay dashlane. i started with them when they first launched so i get free premium for two devices on that account. until you mentioned the price i had forgotten about that

Is there anyway to automatically change passwords in Bitwarden? DL and LP do offer an autochange feature which logs into the website, generates a new password, updates it , and then logs out.

I've never tried that feature. Always worried about it breaking and then having to reset again.

I've never had it break an account and I've used it alot. I have had it fail before, but nothing broke and that was uncommon.

I use it for social media sites and other sites that I very frequently use.

The lack of Bitwarden auto filling the user/pass is something I miss from LP.

It's funny because that was the feature I disabled in lastpass.

I detest autofill. It is horribly annoying. Fill only when I tell you to damnit.

I also disable form fill in all my browsers.

It's a love hate thing for me. A site where I have a single logon I love it. On others where I manage many accounts, it's a huge pain.

What I am happy about is there is no little icon on the username field reminding me that LP can do a fill in.

That's specifically the reason why I deleted it. That little ellipsis was so much more pain then it was a benefit.

I finally took the plunge and put my stuff on BitWarden.

LP was too persistent about wanting to autofill for me and ALWAYS closing sessions, forcing me to login more than I would have liked.

I had that problem in LP, but changing the preferences fixed it right up.

Yeah DL liked to crash occasionally too. The Windows app was especially prone to crashing. There were several times where I had to do full reboots to be able to use DL again.

Bitwarden has yet to crash on me.
