R730 PDR1001 Fault on Drive 3

So came in to do server maintenance today and found a SMART error on one of my hosts. (I've already put in a warranty claim with xByte) but damn it that sucks when drives die.

The array is configured in an OBR10, so I'm not concerned about losing data, so long as the drive arrives in a timely manner.

Thankfully just a PERC, so pop out the old one, pop in the new, enjoy your coffee.

No, I haven't configured those within the controller, I should though.

Last I checked, the PERCs don't "do" email alerts, you needed a 3rd party.
Has that changed? -
I've got SMTP Traps and Email Settings on this controller, so I'd have to say it has.

*** I forgot to mention, my point of reference was a Dell R710, whose iDRAC doesn't have email alerts

I know we've been over this before, but is there any way to ensure that doesn't blow a second drive? Or is that mainly age related, with a little bit of bad luck thrown in?

Ensure? No, that's never an option. But replacing a drive in mirrored RAID (RAID 1, RAID 10) does not increase the risk of another drive blowing. That's part of parity RAID, not mirrored. So you protect the "other" drives from blowing my choosing mirrored RAID from the outset.
