Holy crap, did I call this or what?

Eh, this has been on the horizon for at least five years. Microsoft is losing market share left and right to iOS, Android, and Linux. I think one of the only things keeping Windows in the game is legacy applications that refuse to run anywhere else. Even Windows Server, which has some utility, is not even comparable to Linux in utility and the number of functions it can perform... all for a fraction of the cost.

And the cost of maintaining the OS is just getting higher and higher with less and less payoff. The law of diminishing returns there.

When I was in a 100% Windows environment I followed him since he broke quite a bit of news, but this premium thing was the last straw in an already thin motivation to pay attention to his articles.

Will uBlock (or any ad blocker) get rid of that nonsense?
-
No - He now has premium content.
From what I can tell, instead of loading up the site with tons of ads that people will either just block or be pissed about, he's changing monetary gain methods - i.e. paid subscriptions.
Personally I like his content and I bought a subscription for the first year. We'll see if I consider it worthwhile a year from now.
What would be nice is if instead they could do the crap ads and participate in Google's system where you the site vistor pay into a system, and that system pays the website from your account when you visit the site, and the site shows you fewer or no ads because you paid through the service instead of through watching ads.

Just block the domain and you are good.

You can probably remove that overlay element unless it isn't the article behind it.

There isn't. It's a paragraph of text in the code and that's it

Ah. Ya I do it when I get those ads that cover the whole screen and there isn't a way to close them. Oh well.
