Xenserver 7: Cant Install Patch
-
Posting over here on behalf of @mazterjedi
So i have a fresh install of Xenserver 7. I have installed all of the available patches from Citrix. I am trying to add this new server to my existing pool but I get the error that the servers are not homogeneous. I compared the installed patches between the server and found out that the new server is missing XS70E006. However upon some searching I have found out that this patch was pulled by Citrix because:
Note: The download associated with this hotfix has been withdrawn due to a technical issue identified with its content. Citrix is working to fix and reissue this hotfix as soon as possible.
So, since I cant install the patch, I cant add the server to the pool. So the question is, can I obtain this patch from somewhere else (even though a Google search returns literally 2 results, neither are helpful) or do I try to remove that patch from my existing server in the pool to make both servers homogeneous?
-
I would try to remove it from the others. If it is a bad patch, you don't want to force it onto the one without it but rather remove it from the ones that have it.
-
Are you sure that the homogenous issue has to do with the patch level rather than from the hardware being different? Is the hardware the same? Did the error message give more information?

Removing patches from XS is something of a pain in the rear IIRC. I was reading up on how to do this, and the summation was to let it stay there until a fix comes along rather than trying to remove it.

@DustinB3403 Judgment call on your part. Maybe call them and see if they have an ETA. Who knows how long that is going to take.
-
@wirestyle22 I wouldn't have a number to call as we don't have citrix support.
-
SAM, yes, the two server are identical, hardware wise. Same CPU's, same RAM, same mobo, everything. The only difference is the amount of HDD's installed and the type of arrays on them. I would not be opposed to removing the patch from the known good server, but as Dustin points out, it sounds like a PITA. Plus I dont want to risk hosing my good server. I guess it cant wait, but I would think before they would pull a buggy patch they would already have to fix in place first or atleast provide details on how to remove the patch safely.
-
It might have just been removed. If they found something critical, they might have pulled it quickly before having a plan.
-
I'm hoping they re-release it quickly. I have no idea what kind of turnaround they have.
-
@scottalanmiller and my luck they pulled it right when i would have tried to download it. SMH
-
So definitely sounds like a patch issue. That's crappy that they don't let you bypass that check to add to the pool.
Tagging @olivier in case he has any ideas.

I ended up doing it on my pool.
Not the patch itself, just the reference to it.
Worked fine.

@BRRABill may I ask how you did it?
-
This is the article I followed.
And it seems like maybe I did delete the patch itself. The patch FILE that is, not the installed files.

You can force host to go into pool.

New patch is out!
-
Not yet in the Citrix XML update
-
@olivier Yep. Had to manually download it and install with XC. :frowning2:
-
@Danp In general, it takes around 72h to have it in here. Feel free to wait to avoid manual install. There is nothing we could do about this.
