ML Lag
-
Several people are noticing that the site is starting to slow down. Nothing dramatic, but it is not as snappy as it was before. Partly the site is just getting busier, bigger and there is just more traffic for it to handle. The recent update to NodeBB 1.0 seems to have hit us as well, some things return larger data sets and CPU load and memory have increased dramatically in the last fortnight. We are aware and are watching the system. There is no doubt that we are busier from an OS perspective than we have been in the past.
The plan is to attempt a capacity increase this weekend. So hold tight, we think that we can address the performance issues in the short term at least with a non-invasive increase is system size. However, as the community grows, there is little doubt that moving to a much larger platform is coming down the pike. We are planning for that, but the lift will not be trivial.
-
Yeah, a fair amount of lag here when compared to the usual speediness.
-
Well bugger me, we cannot do the resizing that we were hoping for. We are facing a massive lift and shift.
So, for those interested in the gritty details, we are planning to do a massive email migration to ObjectRocket which is no trivial thing. But this is a massive MongoDB farm and should prepare us for essentially unlimited growth and performance. This is breaching the next barrier of capacity and, we hope, performance.
We will have to do a second, but far less painful, lift and shift to move to a larger application front end. Stay tuned.

Yeah seeing a lot of the avatars displaying as the X logo.

Odd, have not seen any avatar issues here. As those are external, that would be a different issue.
-
@scottalanmiller I have not seen avatar issues either.

I am not seeing that either.... hmmmm

same in chrome:-
-
I've never seen that ever. Very weird.

We just took a major leap forward in performance. We grabbed the latest NodeBB code, looks like they had a problem in the 1.0 release that was silently fixed. There were updates available even without moving to 1.1 so we might have hit an issue with the platform.
-
@scottalanmiller Yeah all good now here
-
Much better here!
-
^_^
-
NOrmal here now.
-
Much better on mobile as well.
-
I hadn't been seeing some of the issues everyone else had, but now all my new notifications are 7 minutes ago, every time.
-
Yep, performance has been normal for the last 30 minutes or so.
-
Lag definitely seems fixed! I wonder what they broke and then fixed!
-
Lag is definitely better.
