We now have Ads!
-
Depends on the kind of site you are. If you are just doing random ads on a typical site, you go for that pay per click model. If you building brand awareness and working with high profile sites, you do other things.

really bad CSS layout at the moment..
~1186 wide it shows the add, but with a ton of wasted spaceonthe right.

If I shrink past that, it pops the add to the bottom.

@scottalanmiller Galaxy S6 the ads show up under the topics list.
In a topic, same thing.
At the bottom of the pile. a Horizontal option might be better than the vertical for these...

I was thinking that or in line with the conversation... although that may break the flow a little bit too much.

I keep reading this as "We now have Aids!" and I can't get the ?monty python? song out of my head....
"Yes we have AIDS, not HIV but full blown AIDS"

Is that Monty Python? I only remember that from Family Guy.

On both my iphone and ipad mini the ads show up at the bottom of the screen.
I'm famous, I'd recognize my icon anywhere!
-
And @Minion-Queen why didn't you use the screenshot functionality on your iPad?

My brain goes straight to "Everyone has AIDS" from Team America...

I was wondering that but didn't want to say anything.

The ad gets pushed under the list on Windows Phone 8.1

Same on iOS, which is good because otherwise it would dominate the screen.

Good for ML. This site should have had ads a long time ago. I would like to see Google Adsense implemented as well. This site deserves some revenue from ads.
It's funny how people accept ads on a website that starts out with them, but they don't accept them on a website that ads them later on
-
Thank you IRJ! Yes we have needed them, remember that all of this was started and has been done without any revenue. Remember we don't charge anyone for posting. So the need to have Ads is a pretty big deal for us. This will allow us to grow and offer more value to all of you who post and have helped us grow!
-
Features like high availability, for one thing, require ad revenue to cover!
-
@IRJ I don't mind ads on any website as long as 1) Those ads don't pop up to the middle of the screen, cover the screen and make me click the "Go away" link, or pop up from the bottom when I am trying to read... or 2) Trying to cram malware onto my computer... or 3) Flash ads... or ...4) Any ads that play sound without me clicking on them specifically...
I like Ads how ML is trying to do them, off to the side, big enough to be seen and noticed. I wouldn't even mind ads showing at the top of the page, beneath the post title. Anything other than the sides, top, and bottom (as long as they don't pop up) are fine.

I think from seeing these that a bottom ad is like to to come along as well, since they load AFTER the rest of the page it should have no impact on reading and responding, which is a huge concern, and would be visible when people scroll to the bottom rather than when at the top like the current one. Need to do testing. Right now, though, we are testing ad rotation, which is not working at all.
