@scottalanmiller I'd be happy just to see the desktop at this point.

Fast/painless remote access
What do you guys use for those one off connections that you need but don't have an agent already set up on a machine? Once in a while I have to remotely connect to a users machine who cannot access their student account and it would be nice to have something that wouldn't require them to click on 4 things before they get to where I can access their machine.
It doesn't have to be free.

RE: HDMI 200ft+
@mr-jones said in HDMI 200ft+:
A recent "project" that was sprung on me but we didn't end up going with involved a cable run of about 200ft from a GPU to a TV.
Now I know there are Fiber optic HDMI cables that appear to be one-way and can reach distances of 200ft, but with that aside, what would be the recommended way to hit 200ft+? I was thinking maybe HDMI from the TV to a HDMI/cat 6 converter, cat 6 to run the distance, and then into another HDMI/cat 6 converter for HDMI into the GPU. Does that sound like it would work?
I know someone has done this, what's the best approach?
@hobbit666 said in HDMI 200ft+:
@Mr-Jones without looking or thinking to hard, that would be my first thought using converters into Cat6/5e
I have used converters from B&H Photo.
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=hdmi to cat6&N=0&InitialSearch=yes&sts=ma
Nothing for as long as you're looking for but it was 100+ feet.

RE: Upgrading to Fedora 34
Are you using Fedora as your desktop/Laptop OS?
I feel like I have asked this question before...

RE: I did it
@scottalanmiller Yea, I see it now. My wife told me I should send the guy an email update on my success, but I'm not that petty. There was a lesson to be had, and I think I nailed it.
As temping as it is to give them the
your way is better for you and that's all that matters.

I hate having to do this, but sometimes it has to be done. Here is how to get this middling PHP version onto this old version of Ubuntu.
Why do you hate doing this? Because Ubuntu 18 is older or because php 7.3 is older?

@jaredbusch that doesn't SEEM like it could be real....
It is because autocorrect in Outlook has a setting to capitalize automatically.
Oh man.
It is one of my users. I know it was a real email...
Not gonna lie, that made me almost spit coffee all over my screen. It's almost as bad as writing out instructions on how to access/navigate our new Student Info System and still having users ask questions when it is in the doc. RTFM!!!

It's a little early I think. PHP is currently only on 8.0.3 and none of the big distros are yet running 8.x branch.

I haven't tested yet to be honest. We shall see.
I've got clones of the WordPress and Moodle servers that I think I'm going to play with. I though I saw WordPress pushing php 8 recently.

PHP 8 upgrade
I run Debian for most of my Linux servers for wordpress/moodle which require 7.4+. Was curious if anyone else has bumped up to php8 yet.

I am not a big RPG type gamer. Although I do like No Man's Sky for PS4, all CODs and am still playing Stardew Valley.

Do you use it mixed with other OS's as to what each situation calls for?
How many desktops do you have? Do you switch desktops based on each situation?
Sorry I meant server set ups.

Is there a reason for the Fedora preference?
s it more stable than CentOS, Debian, or Ubuntu?
Do you use it mixed with other OS's as to what each situation calls for?

Guessing these won't go because of authentication issues?
Do I need to create the [email protected] account? I actually think that is a group email address that sends any email to the receptionists if they leave emails on our general switchboard number.
