Some places use RMM in house. It's more logical than it seems at first glance.

When I was an MSP admin I used Labtech/Connectwise and loved it. I know I don't need the billing aspect of connectwise.

Not exactly the same as former military but how about anyone that IT is a 2nd or 3rd or later career move.

I started at a Gas Station, Went to heating and Cooling. Got injured and went back to the Gas station. Started learning from ML about 3 years ago.
Started my Job here about 8 months ago.

      What about you?

After the Marines I worked construction while going to college for Law Enforcement. Got my degree and wasn't getting anywhere with that. I think I applied to 30+ departments, Sheriffs, etc and decided that I needed to be employed NOW because my wife and I had our first kid. I went back to school and got my MCSA and MCSE in 2003 Server. Got my first IT Job in 2005 and been in this field ever since.

Wow, ex military and no cop shops wanted you? where they hiring?

A lot of it was EOE processes back then. Had to make it "open applications" even though they had a police aide or a captain's kid was just graduating from college with a degree, etc. Some was the places I was applying to didn't actually want military or law enforcement backgrounds. They felt that a teacher was better suited to be a LEO because they didn't have the aggressive behavior and could be molded to be the type of cop they were looking for.

    • What tools do you use...

I find myself moving through a few tools to maintain my network. I have Spiceworks for ticketing but don't really like the inventory/asset management part. I use PDQ Deploy and Inventory for update management along with WSUS for Windows updates. I use PRTG for up/down and resource/usage tracking.

I was hopefully looking to find more of an all in one solution but not sure that one truly exists. I know Connectwise/LabTech but that seems more like MSP tools than a single in house solution. ManageEngine has a great system but not sure if that fits what I'm looking for either.

      What do you guys use?

I spent 4 years in the Marines. Was curious if anyone else spent time in the service.

Or get a new provider. We do our own and while we get some, it really isn't bad at all.

We have a Barracuda 300 series. I just applied a firmware update, I thought I was up to date but one just came out a couple weeks ago.

I guess I jumped to our Linux boxes because I just moved two of our servers in house.

Your email is hosted on Linux servers in house? What email server are you using? And is your inbound port 25 limited to ONLY coming through your Barracuda?

All inbound and outbound is set to run through the cuda box.

No we have Exchange 2016 on a 2012 server. I have 2 servers that are relaying to the exchange server. 90% of the traffic is from in house users so I decided to bring them in house from Linode. I thought I might have had something opened/vulnerable.

    • Lots o' spam

      Good evening,

We've seen a unhealthy increase in spam lately. I'm wondering if I have a hole in my linux servers. I have changed all the passwords, closed all the unused ports, and installed fail2ban. Is there anything else I can check to see what's going on?

I think you need a certain amount of posts under your belt before you can do that. I remember reading it somewhere...let me see if I can find it.

Not that this adds anything to this thread. We've been using FreePBX for 6 years now. I wouldn't use anything else at this point. Support is top notch. Everything works and I can figure things out if needed. I built our system with little help from FreePBX at the time but now that Sangoma has taken over it just gets better and better.

Yes, I would and have a test site so you can review how it works.

I have the test site but glad to know others aren't making the jump as quickly as Wordpress would like.
