    • Testing bottleneck/speed issues on Linode

      We have a linode instance of 32GB: 8 CPU, 640GB Storage. Some users are saying that they are having to wait long periods to upload files to our install of Moodle on this instance. Simple files of 2-3MB take 20-30 seconds. This wouldn't be a problem except that most of our users are uploading 20+ files and have to upload them individually to each student.

      I have tested the issue on other internet providers (not just here on campus) so I know it is an issue on Linode's side but how do I troubleshoot?

    • Weather Kiosk

      Maybe that isn't the right term but here goes with the explanation.

      Our Buildings and Grounds guys would like a simple screen that displays some weather on a single page. Humidity, Temp, Wind, Rainfall, 5 day forecast and a radar if possible.

      I have a spare rPi hanging around after upgrading two library catalog machines to rPi4 so I could use those, just not sure where to start on the process.

    • 550 5.0.350 Remote server returned an error

      I have one domain that we send to that is giving us kickbacks and returns this error:

      550 5.0.350 Remote server returned an error -> 571 Delivery not authorized, message refused

      I have looked at all my stuff and sent emails to other domains with no issues.

      The tech at that location said it is on my end, and of course, I said it can't be because you're domain is the only one kicking back emails.

      Any ideas? The research he did said I should change my domain in exchange to Internal Relay but that doesn't make sense as we aren't sharing a domain or in a hybrid state with that domain.

      Turns out the updated kernel doesn't like the Dahdi card. So support had to roll back the kernel version until the engineering team fixes it. No kernel updates for me until then.

    • RE: The Most Effective Meetings

      @scottalanmiller So True.

      I hate having meetings just to have a meeting. I don't care that it is on the schedule, if there is nothing to talk about why are we having the meeting?

      I'd like to get out more often, but going out with the women is more hassle than it's worth.

      (IE I'd want to be out and fishing by sunrise, and we don't leave until noon.....)

      I know this too well. If it is just the youngest daughter and we are on the water early. If it's everyone we might as well be planning for a night fish.

    • RE: Sodium Update

      I figure I'll post here now that I am working on the ground floor as SAM said.

      How long does it take for machines to check in? I installed on one Windows VM about 10 minutes ago and not seeing anything in the control center or assets.

    • ZeroTier Question

      Hello All,

      I am a recent adopter/migrator from Pertino to ZeroTier. I have an issue currently where I have installed the ZT client/agent on all the LAN pc's but now I have one user, so far, who is saying that she cannot open Outlook. I was chatting with Scott Allen Miller and he said I need to change the DNS. Would I be correct in stating that I need to add the ZT ip addresses of my DC and DNS server to the DHCP scope?

      Also, what about the bridging checkbox? When do I check that box? On what machines?

      This is all new to me. Pertino used to work but now sucks and I gotta find something quick or the natives are going to burn me at the stake.

      The Sunday before Spiceworld was a sad day. I put the boat away for the winter. Sad part of it all is that the weather is still warm enough to go out and get some angling in.

    • RE: ZeroTier Question

      I did notice that the machines that are having issues are both registering their networks as Public. One was truly at a coffee shop. StarSchmucks to be exact. The other was at his house but for some reason his internet shows up as a public spot. I should be able to fix one of those for sure 🙂

      @MattSpeller I know if I didn't put the boat away the weather would be too cold to get it winterized. Murphy's law sucks.

      @scottalanmiller The drives are mapped via logon script but have a red x when off campus. When you click on them it says it could not reconnect.

      I know in math two negatives make a positive, but I don't think it works the same if you take two shitty companies and put them together and try to make one good company.

    • RE: ZeroTier Question

      @Dashrender said in ZeroTier Question:

      Sounds like you have a DNS issue. You might not be able to use short NetBIOS type names.. you might have to move to FQDN instead.

      For example, if you're at StarBucks and the DHCP server gives a suffix of starbucks.com out with the IP, and you ping server1, your system might be pinging server1.starbucks.com instead of server1.yourdomain.com

      I missed this or it didn't click. So you're saying that I might have to go to wls-dc01.wls.wels.net instead of WLS-DC01, correct?
