      Not to mention get them trained on it while still using zoom until they're comfortable.

      that professors need training on how to use basic tools like this... it's unthinkable.

      1/3 of the profs here are in their early 60's so technology isn't as easy for them. Making the changes in a zoom account to require a password, change settings, etc isn't as easy for them.

      These are not the people we need teaching our children if they cannot figure out how to operate a zoom call. How can we expect them to teach our kids anything of value if they cannot do simple tech tasks? School is supposed to prepare kids for the real world (which last time I checked, has a ton of technology).

      Sure if this were not a specialty school then I could see how technology is essential to the teaching. I work at a graduate school where about 1/3 of the schooling isn't technology based.

      You got something to say then say it. Don't give me some dumbass gif or meme to try and get your point across.

      Then stop saying it's ok that teachers are so incompetent that they can't use basic tech.

      OK. So let me clear it up. The ones that use lecture based teaching don't use tech other than email. They barely use PowerPoint. I have now spent about 4 days teaching those profs to use Zoom for which we have a EDU account. So from a global standpoint I can make all the changes that Zoom as recommended and made for the free versions.

      What I would prefer not to do is confuse the shit out of them and find another product that isn't as simple as Zoom is to have them only have more issues with that, struggle to get things figured out, or get pissed off and just give up. That benefits no one.

      We have Microsoft Teams and on previous conversations on here there have been plenty of Why the F is Teams such a pain in the ass for this or that. So I am not going to throw Zoom in the trash because 4 out of 18 professors have more difficulty with certain tech than others.

      Is that a better response?

    • RE: Is it possibe to remove local admin on Windows Server?

      @Pete-S

      As long as the server isn't a DC you can disable the local admin account. Just make your domain admin, or an account with domain admin rights, part of the local admin group.

      I've installed Circle which allows to set time constraints and such. It also has safety measures for websites visited, but whether its enough I think depends on the kids using it. Boy did my wife get pissed when I set her to a max of 7 hours of being on the internet and she used it by 5pm LOL.

    • RE: HDMI 200ft+

      @mr-jones said in HDMI 200ft+:

      A recent "project" that was sprung on me but we didn't end up going with involved a cable run of about 200ft from a GPU to a TV.

      Now I know there are Fiber optic HDMI cables that appear to be one-way and can reach distances of 200ft, but with that aside, what would be the recommended way to hit 200ft+? I was thinking maybe HDMI from the TV to a HDMI/cat 6 converter, cat 6 to run the distance, and then into another HDMI/cat 6 converter for HDMI into the GPU. Does that sound like it would work?

      I know someone has done this, what's the best approach?

      @hobbit666 said in HDMI 200ft+:

      @Mr-Jones without looking or thinking to hard, that would be my first thought using converters into Cat6/5e

      I have used converters from B&H Photo.

      https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=hdmi to cat6&N=0&InitialSearch=yes&sts=ma

      Nothing for as long as you're looking for but it was 100+ feet.

    • Fast/painless remote access

      What do you guys use for those one off connections that you need but don't have an agent already set up on a machine? Once in a while I have to remotely connect to a users machine who cannot access their student account and it would be nice to have something that wouldn't require them to click on 4 things before they get to where I can access their machine.

      It doesn't have to be free.

    • FreePBX DAHDI card not connecting

      Yesterday we had an accidental reboot of our FreePBX server. Yes, I wasn't paying attention and power cycled the machine. Anyway...

      Once the machine came back online the DAHDI card won't connect. It shows the card but I cannot edit anything. Internal calls all work.

      @JaredBusch Any kick in the right direction to get this back online would be helpful.

    • P2V conversion

      I have two physical servers that would take a great deal of time to rebuild to virtual so a conversion from P2V would be ideal. What are you guys using to do P2V conversions?

      I was looking for VMWare's converter but I don't think it exists anymore.
