Pro tip: after a dentist visit, if your mouth is still numb it will be difficult to drink a shot. Half will go on your face.
This is the type of experimentation that needs to occur more on ML

RE: What is your perspective on the overall tone of interactions here on ML?
@kelly said in What is your perspective on the overall tone of interactions here on ML?:
First off, I do not want to have some kind of discussion about civility or point fingers. However, I have noticed from a number of threads that there is a general tendency in the community to find something about a post/topic/thread that is wrong/inaccurate/incomplete and focus on that item to the (to me) detriment of the overall thread.
Am I being too sensitive, or can this be a somewhat hostile place at times? (Telling me that I'm wrong here is not being hostile, btw.)
When I first came here I thought the need for absolute perfection (semantics as an example) was a negative, but I can honestly say that isn't the case. I have been much more accurate with what I am discussing on interviews and it's directly related to this community. At the same time a thread becomes naturally hostile when someone attacks the person instead of the concept being discussed, regardless of how wrong they are. I've been incorrect a lot of the time and when civil discourse occurs it's extremely beneficial for everyone.

First day back from vacation. Feel very at ease--obviously very needed. Had a great time at PAX East with a ton of great people I haven't seen in a long time

RE: Who plans on Attending MangoCon 2017?
I want to. My boss actually asked me today how much it costs as if he is considering paying for it as well, but I have no idea. I told him the time off by itself would be great.

@DustinB3403 I'd be surprised if they escape the 'weighing options' loop. Few do.

No link to the article? Pft.
It requires the new technology known as Smellivision to be able to experience it correctly.
Good news everyone! We've already developed this technology eons ago

NTG's a very different environment. Unlike traditional companies, NTG hires for the long haul and has internal development and such. It even provides lab capacity
What applies most places really doesn't apply there.
Oh. Is that a US mentality? Companies in the UK still generally hire for the long haul and have internal development, especially large companies (maybe not so much in SMB where career progression is limited). I'd say the majority of my friends that work in IT have worked at the same place for years (20+ years in many cases).
Almost all companies claim to do this, what they actually do is a little different.
Reminds me of the job postings for places like Taco Bell where they want "energetic individuals who are passionate about our company." And advertise that they offer "great growth potential and a dynamic workplace."
If you aren't passionate about a 7 layer burrito I don't think we can be friends

Scratch that. Its fixed. Thanks @Dashrender. That article led me to the right answer and cause of action.
I don't have a firewall on this server, but the conflict in AV's is what caused the issue and trying to keep the system secured.
It's not uncommon for Symantec products to not fully or correctly uninstall

Mitigating Nextcloud Two Factor Authentication Error
I upgraded Nextcloud and for some reason two-factor authentication activated on my admin account. Since I couldn't access my admin account I needed to find a way via cli to disable two factor authentication, but because it wasn't configured there was no folder in /var/www/html/nextcloud/apps for me to rename, etc. Below is the command I found that worked for me.
sudo -u apache php occ config:system:set twofactor_enforced --value=false
Note: You have to run the command as apache, or if you're using Debian www-data.

RE: Non-IT News Thread
I don't really know how to react to it. They were at a Disney resort on a man made lake. They were from Nebraska and it said no swimming but there was no sign that gave any warning of gators. The dad ran into the water to fight the alligator but couldn't rescue his son. He was standing right next to him when it happened. I think of it like, you go to look at your TV and your kid gets up on the coffee table and falls. You could say the parent is negligible but it happens to every parent. I feel really bad for them honestly. There is no comfort in what happened.

@siringo To add to @scottalanmiller's comment, if you want something that looks good and is easily readable you can pair Zabbix with Grafana.
