Witnessing Sexual Harassment
I just got back from setting up new copiers in municipal courts and I met with this sleasey looking rep. He had a weird uncle type of vibe. Shook hands slightly too long, didn't understand personal space. All of it. I notice when I arrived that he had found the prettiest girl in the courts system and was sitting so close to her he their knees were touching. I happen to know the woman and she is a very nice person, but is also very timid. I have seen her enough to know that she is very uncomfortable. I used her computer to RUI into the copier to try to break it up and he just moved to wherever she moved. She is married (which she brought up 6 or 7 times in conversation) and so is the rep just as an aside. Anyway, I finished doing the install and dragged him around with me to get him away from her. When we came back and I said he wasn't needed anymore he walked up to this woman and held his hand out to shake her hand. He was telling what an amazing woman she is etc etc etc. It was like a 30 second handshake. He then took her hand and kissed it. As he did this she cringed. He then normally shook the hand of a much less attractive woman in the same office. After he left she thanked me for separating them and said that he is extremely creepy and weird.
Seeing this happen really upset me. I understand that ultimately this is up to her to report, but when you are not directly involved what is the best course of action? Can I call this guy out for being a creep? I'm not sure if it's professional to do that or if I should even consider what is professional in the face of something like this.

My sister got me an SNES classic for my birthday. She lives pretty far away so she just gave it to me yesterday.

Washington Governor signs bill to allow composting human bodies
Recompose is spearheading a greener green burial.
This week, Washington Governor Jay Inslee signed a bill to allow the composting of human remains within the state. While I don't disagree with this, the entire idea of burials is also just weird, at least from a modern perspective of pumping people full of chemicals to preserve the body and then putting a really expensive box in the ground inside of another larger concrete box.
Screw all of that, just burn me after I'm gone. Not that that's better, it's just done with quicker.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
Took a nice family picture at my little brothers wedding and I realized that his face looks like the troll face. It is now a reaction meme in my family

RE: Ransomware Management Career Fork
I am in negotiations currently for a sizable raise or I walk. The issue is my fiance doesn't enjoy the risk/reward of it.

@gjacobse Form factor and how quiet the chassis is are large factors. One day I'll have a rack in my home but that day will not be soon.
Oh that's a conversation we can have. If you guys were making a network closet at home how would you cool it?
I would cool it ambiently and save money on my heating bills. Nothing says "I work in IT" like a server rack in your living room.
Or a 13U rack under your desk at home. Man, I gotta remember to check out Northeast Factory Direct, bet I could pickup one for cheap.
13U is almost the perfect height for an ottoman. Just saying.

What? She doesn't want you to make more money? ... or she doesn't want you to be out of a job?
The risk of losing my job. She is a worrier though and doesn't understand the market for IT professionals
Did you give them the ultimatum? "Pay raise or I'm outta here" ?
No I said I'm very unhappy with my current salary. When I negotiated my salary the list of responsibilities was nowhere near the requirements of the job and I want to be compensated.
They definitely understand they are going to lose me but I never approach employers with threats. Not a good negotiation tactic imo.

I think that that seems likely. IT requires a lot of analytical thinking so naturally analytical people will be drawn to it.
I would agree. When you can have something being blocked at the network level by the firewall, at the computer level by the security software, by a third-party filtering service, etc, I feel like IT draws people who like constantly juggling six different things and who enjoy things that are constantly getting added as potential variables. It's maddening but when you finally figure out the solution to that complex problem, it's a rush that I can't even describe to people...
Yeah I'm definitely starved of conversation about solutions for sure. The past decade I've worked alone essentially. When I sat down with the guy who I'm taking over for I realized how bad it was. We spent like 4-5 hours talking shop. I could tell he was in the same position I was lol.

I just did an in place upgrade from 8.1 to 10 on my main desktop.
Flawless so far, everything works.
Wish mine would have been that simple. I have an add on usb3 card that refused to work at first, then just started working out of the blue, no change that I could see besides some updates.
That just happened to me with my led controller arduino that I have in my arcade stick
Stick was made by www.jasenscustoms.com to give credit for it!
Custom art was done by hibachifinal on the SRK forums. It's the highest quality arcade stick I have ever seen and I go to tournaments for Street Fighter often.

RE: New to It looking for help!!
@WrCombs As much as everyone here wants you to research, don't try to look up job descriptions to get a sense of what a network admin or server admin's responsibilities are (or any title really). You will learn quickly that virtually no company does that well.
