    • Text to Speech for IVR recordings

So most people I know are typically not excited to be the voice used to record messages on IVRs for a phone system. I had setup a freepbx system for my wife's company and she had purchased voice recordings from 8x8. I am not sure if anyone has ever purchased these but they are actually really nice recordings that do not sound overly robotic. Just curious if anyone knows of a software or website that you can type out your message and have it give you a clean sounding wav file or similar? I've looked at a few online but they all sound too robotic to me. I wish I knew what the 8x8 one was. Anyways just wondering if you guys use anything like this on your systems or have any suggestions.

      Thanks

Cyberarms is also helpful if you have an Exchange server. You can ban IP addresses if a user has too many invalid attempts on the various Exchange services.

There are two alternatives that I use. Both are free and easy to setup.

Cyberarms - Used to be a pay product but now open source https://archive.codeplex.com/?p=idds
You can download the msi from https://cyberarms.net/

@syko24 Here are the instructions for making a CHAN_SIP trunk.

      https://mangolassi.it/topic/12327/setting-up-a-sip-trunk-in-freepbx-13/2

Thanks again! So I assume you are using pjsip from phones to pbx and chan_sip on your trunks? Or have you completely switched everything to chan_sip at this point?

@jaredbusch - I have only used Voip.ms for all my trunks. Do you think this is a Freepbx issue or a Voip.ms issue? In theory, shouldn't the retry settings reconnect or do you think it is just timing out eventually because of a bug?

I appreciate all your feedback. Thanks!

    • Freepbx Trunk Randomly Goes to Rejected Status

Does anyone who hosts Freepbx on Vultr run into an issue where your trunk randomly disconnects but then never reconnects and goes to the status of "Rejected"? I have 3 separate systems and they all randomly do this on occasion. My theory is that it may be happening during the Vultr backup at night but I am not sure how I can prove this to be true.

I found this post that describes the same issue and may consider applying this script but thought that the Trunk settings would account for this and auto reconnect.

Most likely a commission based sale on his part.

Of course, they make SO much more money - charge more, deliver less. It would be a huge win for them.

The only thing he was explaining was shared lines are limited to a certain amount of sessions or the sessions are capped. Not really sure what was meant by this statement. Most likely just selling more bs.

Um, that makes no sense. If it is "not shared" why are they capping you. It's you getting screwed by a cap you have to pay for!

Even more reason to stay shared.

didn't he say SHARED lines were the ones with limitations?

Correct it was the shared lines that were capped. The sales guy claimed that they limit the amount of session on shared lines which ultimately would result in dropped connections or slower speeds.

Just curious if you had the option of Comcast Gigabit (coax not fiber) or the 500/100 fiber what would you choose? I would imagine the fiber option is more reliable.

All Internet is shared, it's just how closely it is shared to you. It's would be incredibly unlikely that 50/50 dedicated a few more feet would be worth diddly over 500/100 shared a few feet closer to you. I'd avoid the dedicated, even the name is meant to be misleading.

That’s kind of what I figured. It’s one of those situations where another provider is basically reselling service from AT&T. The reseller was selling to me at one price which I thought was on the high side. I called AT&T directly and they quoted me the 500/100 at almost a third the price.

I don’t deal with clients that often that have fiber. I have a sales person trying to tell me that dedicated is better, but a shared circuit for 500/100 for $300/month vs a dedicated 50/50 for $800/month is a crazy difference in price. Am I crazy to think the shared circuit is the better option here or should I tell this guy to go pound sand?

And yes I know don’t let sales people make your IT decisions 🙂

@fredtx - Are the tapes meant for long term archiving or just to take a copy offsite?

Some NAS models like Synology and Qnap have a copy button feature on the front for syncing data to a usb drive. Maybe they could use Veeam Endpoint for the initial backup to the NAS and then the copy button for a second copy to take offsite on the usb drive.

I'm with the rest - What are you trying to accomplish with AD? Can it be accomplished with other means?

I agree, if it were me, I'd not look at AD here at all. This is where Salt or Ansible seems like a better fit.

Can salt and/or ansible be used for user/device authentication?

Salt/Ansible is not an authentication platform. It's a systems management or state configuration system.

You can use Salt/Ansible to sync accounts across devices... so that you can control what local users and passwords are on which systems.

I didn't think it was, but did not know about the account sync functionality. Thanks for the info.

That's a key feature in SodiumSuite's design. Account management across platforms.

Is that available in SodiumSuite at this time?

      Not quite, but VERY soon.

      @QuixoticJeremy

Every time I login to my account I always click on the Terminal tab hoping there will be some added functionality. Really looking forward to some of the more advanced features of the platform to be implemented.

I actually just bought the 12TB model so not sure yet. It’s been a while since I bought Buffalo. I have bought them in the past and they have faired well.
