@scottalanmiller I tried but there were no packages for CentOS 7. Ok, I'll try that then. I didn't know if it was better to use XenServer or try to install it and do everything manually. So if I'm understanding correctly, if I wanted a PV image of Ubuntu or CentOS I would use one from Xen/XenServer?

@scottalanmiller I installed on CentOS 6.7. I wasn't sure what the best distro was to use.

I set up a server and installed Xen. I've never used it before, so are there special images for PV or do you install from a regular ISO and then install packages? If there are special images, where do you get them?

@scottalanmiller I can't remember what I used. If you have the Alert Browser, it will tell you what to run to allow it.

If you are using CentOS 7 and have a weird issue with text not showing up on some sites, it's SELinux. I kept getting notifications that chrome couldn't use the Roboto font, but never put it together that the problem was linked to some sites not showing text. It worked for pretty much every site, except this one and some google forums. Just an FYI.

@scottalanmiller Reminds me of a company around here. They constantly have a position open (probably because it sucks). They call it an "Entry Level DBA." It's literally a phone support person who responds to alerts from Big Brother on client's systems.

One other area that consultants cannot be expected to know are some of the horrid pieces of software that are out there. This company I'm doing work for now has an ERP system called Visual Estitrack. It is written in FoxPro which has been discontinued, yet the company is still coming out with versions based on FoxPro 9. The application must be mapped on the V drive, even if you browse to the dbf files through another mapped letter, it won't work. They had an issue with some employees clocking in on time but were late. Apparently if you change the time on Windows, it will change the time in the software and they can just clock in whenever they feel like it. DBF files are unencrypted so anyone who has ever heard of them could open the folder and change data. It's a mess. Luckily they are moving to Epicor, but it's going slowly.

Anyway, back on track, I don't think anyone could be expected to know what they would be getting into, and that's just one piece of software from one company.

@thecreativeone91 You also get monitoring with it. Realtime, and a daily digest of every event (that crosses a threshold).

Do you trust services like sealion.com? I used it on a test server before, I just don't know if it's good practice to trust these types of services.
