I don't really use EMR/EHR's, mostly PM but I cannot imagine the enormous amounts of pain of switching EHR's.

Here's a question for ya'll.
What do you call cooking steaks or hotdogs or burgers on a grill?
Grilling
OK, and what's the difference between grilling and BBQ?
Grilling is just applying the meat to the grill to cook. BBQ requires a sauce.
BBQ is a specific cooking style that may or may not use a sauce (don't talk about sauce in some states in the south)
I'm in the north but I am a no sauce BBQ/steak person. My motto is, "If it needs sauce you didn't do it right."

At least they are not going out of business like SOAPware.

RE: What did you have for lunch or dinner today?
Grilling is fast with medium to high temps (10 minutes at 375-700) while BBQ is slow and low temps (many hours at 200-225)
IMHO, you cannot really BBQ a steak (Strip/Ribeye), hotdog or hamburger but you can BBQ or Grill a chicken.

Finally Dell R720, R520 are getting BIOS updates.
I don't see the R520 BIOS Updates. It is still showing 2.4.2 from 2016 in Drivers and Downloads. Is there another place I need to look?

RE: Network setup - Hyper-V
I am wondering if the best solution is just use RDS all around if you have enough licenses. Heck, W2016 is good for the next 10 years. I don't bother with SMB for my local file based app. Doing SMB cost to much in time with sporatic SMB issues (every few months) that would dork up DB files. Going RDS all around saved our company a bunch of money over the last 20 years.

RE: Network setup - Hyper-V
Also, don't forget to check the Event Viewer to see if there may be an error related to SMBv1/2/3.

Just trying to get your setup correct, Multiple 2016 VM's on one 2016 Hyper-V host. 1 RDS, 1 FS and 1 DC?
Is app installed on RDS or FS server?
1 Physical Box with 2 VM's
1 - DC/DNS/DHCP
1 - File Server/RDS Server (Application resides here)I am guessing they are are all on the same vswitch?
Is it slow when you access the app from the DC?

Going from 2008 R2 Standard to Server 2016 Standard
Hmmmm.. Are the workstations W7 or W10? Wondering if using different SMB versions may be an issue as well. I only mention this because I had a network issue a long time ago when I went from 2003 to 2008R2 and SMB was an issue until everyone was on W7 from XP.
Edit: - Also, are there any errors in the Event Viewer when copying large files or starting the app from a desktop?

I appreciate everyone's help here. It sucks when you set up a brand new server for a client and they want their 10 year old server back.
What OS was on the old server vs the new one? Wondering if it may be an SMB issue if they are going over a UNC path?

I just recently started looking into a opensource email server, ran across this post, went to the site and noticed the opensource version does not include AD integration. Bummer.
We don't use AD, take this moment to consider if the answer might be to move away from AD
I have thought about it many times over the years but I have my technological limitations. I am
notconstantly learning between here, SW and my own reading though. One day I may make that breakthrough. -

RE: Where/who should I be buying Microsoft Server licensing from?
I mostly get my products from NewEgg and CDW. My current CDW rep is pretty good. The best thing about my rep is he admits software licensing is crazy and talks with his team to find me the right licenses every time.
YMMV but I give a +1 lately to CDW. I have been to a couple local events and they admit they will not be the lowest price but are trying to offer better services and side benefits.
After reading many SW/blog posts by SAM, I do watch out for the VAR related issues.
Edit: - As for finding the right MS software licenses on CDW, don't waste your time. If you don't find the correct MS Part-# just ask your rep to find out. As you found out CDW will list every single license from all types of MS contracts (Government, Open Value, Open License, 0-5 users, 100+ users, 500+ users). It is not worth the pain. It is better if you ask your rep, "Can you find me a W2016 Standard License with 16 Cores?" or "Can you find me 20 2016 RDS User CAL's under my Open Value license?"

RE: Where Does University Need to Focus for IT Students
Back to the original question. Based on previous posts, we can surmise that University needs to separate IT from Bench and develop degrees that provide both students a correct path to their chosen career. If Bench, more tech. If IT, more classes towards business, psychology, math, and economics, then tech (in that order).
To paraphrase Sam, getting everyone on board with correct terminology should be the first place to start (I believe this is the largest issue). We know how hard that will be as individuals inside and outside the IT Field still cannot understand the difference between a Hacker and Cracker (That issues has been ongoing since the 60's).
How to go about getting University on board with change with individuals not on the board of University, good luck with that.
Side-note - I went to a tech school and the best class I had was my critical thinking class (psychology) that taught me how to think. I believe that was crucial to my IT/Bench worker career.

RE: Is Tintri Heading for Pure and Nutanix Territory Financially?
I get that they gamble. I am an investor but the mentality to throw good money after bad doesn't make sense to me. Initial stages (GOOGL, AMZN, FB, NFLX, etc) and a few years I understand. Companies going on 10+ years, burn immense amounts of cash, high debt and everyone is paid in stock options are the ones I cannot wrap my head around. Good money after bad IMHO.
