OK that might be overstating it a bit - maybe.
Thank you for your patience while we have reviewed this issue with our Resource Hub vendor, Jive. They have advised that the issues you are experiencing with videos in Internet Explorer is fixed in version 9 of Jive. Unfortunately, athenahealth is currently on version 8.0.5 with no scheduled plans to update to another version of Jive at this time. We apologize for any inconvenience to your practice but would recommend utilizing another supported browser to review any Resource Hub videos that have issues when viewed in Internet Explorer. My EHR vendor is not updating their support portal software package. And now they specifically have a reason to do so - customer impact.

While it wasn't out of business - we had the same problem with our last EHR, it was bought by another company, then killed - obviously in a hope to get the customers to move to their main product - yeah.. .that didn't work so well for them, at least in our case.

I don't really use EMR/EHR's, mostly PM but I cannot imagine the enormous amounts of pain of switching EHR's.

Hugely painful, and super expensive.
Sad thing (and sorta lucky thing) we still have our old EHR. Because we have to maintain records for 7 years for adults and for kids until 21 + 2 for those that were under 21 the last time we saw them, we have to keep this system online for a LONG time..
Unfortunately, it doesn't play well with Windows 10. So I have a few Win 7 machines scattered around the office for access (where people print out the old stuff, then scan that into a PDF then upload into the chart - don't ask why we don't just print to PDF).
But near the end of 2019, I'll be removing most of those machines and removing internet access (general network access) to that system because of no more updates.
I believe the current plan is to retire the system in 2023 when we have reached the 7 year of non use mark on that system. As for the child accounts in it, we'll pull a report and export them all manually to PDF and store them until their time expires as well.

I defintely understand the pain of old records though. I cannot wait to ditch a bunch of old data myself. Been sitting there waiting on its 20 year anniversary. Plus I have a bunch rolling off the 7.5 years retention period also.

This is a good example of the risk of proprietary software as @scottalanmiller has mentioned.
With something like GNU Health if you need new functionality, you can create it or hire someone to create it for you. It is modular. Since it is based on Tryton, you can probably have it as a browser based application now too.

If you're previous and current EHR systems are so locked down by the vendor that a method can't be devised to get the data from the one to the other, that's a serious problem.

welcome! we even print emails and keep paper version stored for months. not legal stuff at all. just customers' orders

wow - sigh...
We have a doc who barely looks at the computer chart, frequently printing out the whole chart reviewing it.. then tossing it. We've discussed it as a company, and the doc was allowed to continue this because they were willing to pay for the paper costs themselves.
The doc is documenting fully in the EHR though.. so at least there is that.
