The following Friday night, all of my weekly backups take place and complete. This goes for a while, but never overlapping with updates.(automatically)

Starting Saturday evening, all the hypervisors then go ahead and install updates, and reboot automatically if needed.

Yes, I backup VMs before any update cycle, anyway currently, the hypervisor is updated "by hand" on a best effort basis. After all backups. Only VMs are automatically patched and rebooted after a backup.

Considering what you are saying, your logic is not to stick as close as possible with security fixes, but, rather, stage them for a while having time to review them (or catch some other unfortunate guy how has hit a "bug"). am I wrong?

Yes that's right. I have some test hypervisors with test vms on a test network I will deploy the same updates to first. But I will always internet search the updates first to see if they blew up anyone elses stuff. I'm subscribed to the patch Tuesday RSS feed as well that give warnings of bad updates. If there are any, I will wait a month or two because that's how long it takes MS to fix them. I don't spend a lot of time on updates as im busy with other stuff. I manage them in as I can.

Did you miss the in St Louis requirement?

Pitt to St Louis, easy commute once every two weeks.

I might need to crunch numbers about Atlanta to St. Louis 😉

It'd be at least $3500 a month in travel expenses for me lol.

Trying to figure out where to get and how to install KVM Windows guest drivers on Fedora. Thought there'd be a simple .iso or something to install it from, doesn't appear that way and is looking like it will be a pain.

Coming from a Linux newb, but wouldn't you just mount it like another USB drive or something?

That's the problem, mount what? I can't even find anything. Just a web of links inception style, and I don't feel like spending 10's of hours doing something that should be so simple.

Make a new thread. This is the right place to get answers

Yeh I think I found the answer just now... on the fedora website, who knew?

@IRJ said in Salary, Responsibilities, or Title?:

@RamblingBiped said in Salary, Responsibilities, or Title?:

When it comes to disclosing previous salaries I've been pretty open when I am actively pursuing opportunities. I'm not going to devote hours of conversation and meetings with an organization just to find out the pay and benefits are not where they need to be. That's disrespectful of their time, and a waste of mine. I'll usually discuss that within the first couple of meetings with a recruiter or HR representative, and if appropriate I disclose it without prompting.

I agree with you about time wasting which is why it's one of my first questions. As in salary is discussed on first contact about the position.

I dont agree about disclosing my old salary. Why does it even matter? My requirements now are X which is obviously more than my old salary of Y. Only X is relevant in a conversation with a potential employer. They should already realize that money is a big motivating factor especially in Cloud architecture and DevOps. Many employers try to hire people for 6 months + for those positions so they know they have to open their pockets.

I always get the salary range even before I consider discussing the job with anyone in any real context.

They know anyone worth a damn is going to ask straight away anyways.

I never reveal my previous salary. I'm not saying I never will, but during recruitment in the past I haven't. When asked, I've redirected with stating something along the lines of the salary range I'm looking for and it was never more than that.

I'll keep leaving it to my gut to decide after judging the situation, but so far it's been as mentioned.

I don't think an SSL cert implies that the site you are on is legitimate.

It's more to ensure your connection to the site is "secure"... whether it's a phishing site or not is besides the point.

If the phishing site is using SSL, then I can at least be sure that any info going to them is at least not being intercepted and modified by someone else, LOL!

Right now I am making decent amount of money, but I do not like my current boss... so I want to change my field. I looked around some job board and come across ISD system administrator job with slightly less pay (but it sounds interesting), plus half the travel distance.

Some requirement is BS and Red Hat Linux certification + MSCA and CCNA.
I am comfortable with MCSA and CCNA, but Red Hat... Any recommendation?

Those are certifications for like 3 completely different fields/specializations... what is the job?

Somehow, Korora 25 Gnome installed just fine and is kinda mostly working...

      More on this later.

Odd. But it didn't work before?

I honestly don't remember everything I've tried. It's well over 10 different distros. I even tried Gentoo, which was freaking awesome, except my fans were running at 100%... so I didn't put much time into that one, though I'm sure it was an easy fix.

I know I've tried a few different distros that use Gnome, I'm thinking Korora was one of them but I'm not sure anymore. If it didn't work before, and it does now, I've done nothing differently except now I'm dual booting with Win10 since the last try, which shouldn't make any different.

I'm typing this on Korora 25 Gnome now. I can even shutdown properly if I hit ctrl+alt+F1 when it gets stuck.

free to contact us at either the help page, which is set as your
home page in Internet Explorer, email us at
helpdesk@<MyCompany>.com, or call us at extension 4357.

      Your username is domain\$un
      Your password is
      Your email address is $fn$ln@<MyCompany>.com
Your phone number is $officePhone Ext.

It is suggested that you change your password to something that
you can remember but difficult enough that somebody else cannot
figure out. The requirement is only 6 characters, but we do
advise on making it longer, throw some numbers and special
characters in there as well to make it stronger. Best advice
would be to use a pass-PHRASE instead of a pass-WORD.

Your computer should already be setup with your email loaded and
your network drives. At <MyCompany>, we use Microsoft
Outlook as the email client. Depending on what department you
are in will depend on what drives you have available.
Generally, everybody will have an F: drive and a G: drive. The
F: drive is your network folder. Place in there the documents
that you feel you cannot do your job without. In the F: drive
will be a scan folder. When you go to the Xerox to scan in
documents, then you will find them in your scan folder. The G:
drive is a company-wide shared folder. As for your department
drives, it would be best to talk with $($manfn.name),
your supervisor/manager, about the nature and uses of these drives.

The use of the equipment and resources provided are a privilege
to you for use and should not be taken advantage of. There are
measures set in place that allows us to manage the network. Do
not assume that there is any personal privacy on this network.
The only privacy that you can assume is for the nature of your
work. All information (including emails, documents,
spreadsheets, pictures, etc.) contained on the equipment
provided and on the network is the sole property of Standard
      Meat Company.

If you have problems with your equipment or network resources,
please feel free to ask. We do not mind helping, but we cannot
help if we do not know, so please ask!

This is a great script, especially if you have users frequently cycling in and out of the company. Also a good base to expand from, or customize to make it fit many environments.

Something that stuck out in the script for me was that the homeDirectory AD attribute wasn't being used (unless I missed it). When you set that, AD automatically does permissions appropriately for the users home drive or home directory. It works well with DFS or DFSR.

Edit: I use the following format for "homeDirectory": \\DOMAIN\Namespace\HomeDrives\%username%
Path can be whatever works, above is just what happens to be for that case.

    • RE: Project: Moving main laptop to Korora 25 Desktop

I think I will stick with Gnome over Cinnamon on Korora. Not just because I'm afraid to break my currently working setup, but because it's actually starting to grow on me.

I can actually feel a productivity increase using my computer this way over the standard Windows-like Cinnamon layout.

I like how the "Windows key" on the keyboard shows all your open windows, easy access to other screens, and search. Also moving mouse to upper left hand corner does the same thing.

I don't know, it's more than just that though... if you know what I mean. It seems cleaner too.
